Last article of the Just Food research project is finally out. Together with Irina Velicu , Stefania Barca, Andreea Ogrezeanu, Irina Castro,Lucia Fernandes, Anastacia Osprea , Rita Calvário and Hestia-Ioana Delibas, the Just Food proposed an analysis of the alternative food movements (AFMs) from a social dimension, questioning how do AFMs contribute to the 'just sustainability' of food. https://lnkd.in/dUgbYEF7

“Mathematical optimization plays a crucial role in addressing food insecurity.” - Meike Reusken As a result of advanced mathematical methods, food assistance programs like Dutch Food Banks can operate more effectively and efficiently. This is shown by PhD research conducted by Meike Reusken on behalf of the Zero Hunger Lab. During COVID-19, these methods enabled a 32% increase in beneficiaries, tackling uncertainties in supply, demand, and logistics. With the support of the Tilburg University Fund, the Zero Hunger Lab aims to eliminate hunger and create sustainable food security. https://lnkd.in/dsnyqrPW

The 22nd edition of the Salon de l'#Agriculture, de l'élevage et de l'agro-industrie, known as #SIPSAFILAHA, is set to take place this year with the theme "Strengthening South-South exchanges". Hosting exhibitors from countries such as Brazil, China, France, the Netherlands, Turkey, the United States and others, this trade fair offers a unique opportunity for agriculture and food industry professionals to interact and exchange ideas, while exploring new technologies to enhance their performance.  The event plans to welcome more than 650 exhibitors, and anticipates an impressive turnout of over 35,000 professionals. The 'BioEast and beyond' conference in Budapest opens with a presentation of #JPIFACCE chair, Jean-Francois Soussana, on shock and resilience in the European Agri-Food systems. Publication | Exploring the global connections of our food system The complexity of food production and consumption in the Netherlands is deeply intertwined with international dynamics, requiring new approaches to sustainability. In this new publication, ten essays explore how global interconnections influence the ability of governments to shape policies and drive societal change within the Dutch food system. Our colleagues Bettina Bock and Han Wiskerke contributed an essay, "Food from Near and Far: Shifting Relationships in the Food Chain." They explore how agriculture has evolved since WWII, marked by modernization, globalization, and the rise of local food initiatives. These shifts not only affect nature and landscapes but also challenge how we balance efficiency, sustainability, and social cohesion.
