So important for neonatal staff to be aware of this resource. Neonatal parents may struggle with how they feel about their baby. These 3 important questions can make all the difference to open up a conversation and help support parent-infant relationships on the neonatal unit.
What 3 words or phrases would you use to describe your relationship with your baby?
What brings you the most joy in the relationship with your baby?
What is your biggest fear about your relationship with your baby?
Start the conversation.

We were delighted to be involved in helping to shape this vital new resource from Department of Health and Social Carehttps://lnkd.in/etwvdp_p
The guidelines are designed to help practitioners to identify early difficulties in parent-infant relationships and to support them in referring families onto specialised parent-infant relationship teams and services where appropriate.
As well asking caregivers their views, the new prompts also encourage practitioners to consider what babies are communicating through observation. The baby's voice is such a crucial part of understanding parent-infant relationships & more about the development of babies.
This new set of guidelines, and especially the consideration of the baby's voice, resonates well with our recently announced theme for Infant Mental Health Awareness Week (10th - 16th June) where we're asking politicians to #Speakupforbabies

During Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, let's emphasize the importance of holistic care, including mental health support, for infants and young children with cerebral palsy. By fostering early interventions that address both physical and emotional needs, we empower these children to navigate their world with confidence and resilience. Together, let's advocate for inclusive services that ensure every child with cerebral palsy can thrive. 💚 #CerebralPalsyAwareness#HolisticCare#EarlyIntervention
🌟 Prioritizing Access to Care for Child and Adolescent Mental Health 🌟
Ensuring access to mental healthcare for children and adolescents is not just a priority; it's a necessity. As we navigate the complexities of our modern world, it's crucial to remember that our youth face unique challenges that require tailored support and intervention.
👧🧑 From the pressures of academic performance to the impacts of social media and peer relationships, today's children and adolescents encounter a multitude of stressors. Yet, access to timely and appropriate mental health services remains elusive for many.
🔍 Recognizing this critical need, we must advocate for:
1️⃣ Early Intervention
2️⃣ Equitable Access
3️⃣ Integrated Care
4️⃣ Telehealth Solutions
5️⃣ Education and Awareness

While I wouldn't have much to add when it comes to engaging young people , I would instead suggest:
1. I see myself in that expression 100%.
2. I see this way too often in business, where 'those young people' are now grown up, and Entrepreneurs, Founders, Co-Founders.
They are leaking C-PTSD all over the place! Eg, toxic leadership, toxic culture, big losses, potential lawsuits for some, high risk behaviour, and all out lies to shareholders and Fortune 500 clients - (crypto and Web3 has this at one of the highest rates I've ever come across so far in the business world) - And these guys are oblivious that there is anything wrong, much less that they have some version of undiagnosed (whatever label goes here), although I would suggest C-PTSD more often than not.
Their business becomes the 'next scene' for playing out the subconscious survival voice... only this time, millions can be involved, front page of the media naming and shaming them for mess ups are often just a few email clicks away any given day, and / or they move inside Highly Successful, Secretly in Despair until they just can't anymore... if they are lucky, burnout will be the signpost that causes them to change direction and find their way out.
And I can't help but notice... that everything I wrote here would also be a version of my own biography. Funny that. 😎 🤗

Acts of self-sabotage can feel empowering to young people who had no control over what happened in early life.
This is not usually a conscious decision, but one made by the part of the youth that desperately needs control back to feel safe, even if it means making choices that hurt themselves or people they care about.
This is a difficult concept to explain, so let me know if this makes sense to you.
Of course, this is not the case with all trauma survivors, but could be the missing piece of the puzzle for many.
What can we do to help this situation? Allow people
coping with trauma to build autonomy, and give them agency over their lives in an age-appropriate manner.
Provide options when, possible, and don’t make decisions for the youth without their consent or input.
There are other ways to help not mentioned here, and instead of me laying it out, I prefer you to chime in with guidance on this common sabotaging behavior we see in youth with trauma so we can discuss.

“Early parental sensitivity – characterized by responsiveness to a child’s needs and emotions – is critical for healthy brain development and future mental health. By fostering environments that support parental sensitivity, we can promote healthier, more resilient people and communities. As parents and professionals, we have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on future generations by embracing and promoting nurturing – or as researchers showed, even extravagantly nurturing – parenting practices.”

The recent "Parents Under Pressure" report by U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy emphasizes the urgent need to support parents and caregivers who are experiencing unprecedented levels of stress. This comprehensive advisory highlights the critical connection between parental mental health and children's well-being, calling for a fundamental shift in how we prioritize and value parents' mental health.
At Oregon Research Institute, we are dedicated to advancing family and parenting research to address these challenges. Our research on parenting programs such as MomNet, Talk Parenting, Triple P – Positive Parenting Program, and Early Steps/Family Check-Up, helps us learn how to provide evidence-based supports to families that help them navigate the complexities of modern parenting. Through their work, ORI scientists aim to reduce parental stress, improve parenting practices, and ultimately enhance family well-being.

Please help us to bring the conversation about maternal mental health out into the open.
Did you know that 80% of parents’ mental health got worse after their time in the neonatal unit and 23% of parents had anxiety after their neonatal stay according to research by Bliss?
You’re not alone, even though it might feel like you are.
The neonatal journey is tough and different for each parent but its impact can be long-lasting and affect your mental health and wellbeing.
Neonatal units across the country are beginning to place greater importance on supporting parents and families with #familyintegratedcare and more psychological support for parents.
Join us to raise more awareness of what it's like to go through a neonatal journey at such a vulnerable, emotional and precious time in a parent's life.

🌍👴👵🧠According to the World Health Organization, key facts we need to keep in mind regarding the mental health of older adults include the following:
•By 2030, one in six people worldwide will be aged 60 years or over.
•Loneliness and social isolation are risk factors for mental health conditions in later life.
•One in six older adults experiences abuse, often by their own caregivers.
•Approximately 14% of adults aged 60 and over live with a mental disorder.
•Mental disorders among older adults account for 10.6% of the total years lived with disability for this age group.
The mission of the EDU-MENT project is to sustainably improve the quality of mental health care for older adults in need by empowering registered nurses to recognise, understand, and professionally manage psychosocial and behavioral changes. This is achieved through innovative approaches and better training for care staff without psychiatric qualifications.
Stay tuned with us to learn more about the progress of our project.
