Today is the 23rd anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our Nation. This is a somber anniversary but it is important we never forget and remember those lost on 9/11. This day brought fear and uncertainty but it also united us as a nation and marked a day we will NEVER forget. Innocent souls on all sides must be remembered. I would’ve expected someone like Justin to not have succumbed to the whims of capitalist politics and to have to lean so heavily on a bogeyman to appease a vote-base like his nemesis does so well. Guess I had mistaken posturing for integrity. Shame on me. For those with an iota of integrity remaining in their souls - let’s not allow such simplified narratives rewrite history. First: Zionism isn’t representative of the honourable faith of Judaism. To simplify the narrative and to insinuate that the actions of criminals like Netanyahu and his global ‘support base’ are in the service of Judaism is a blatant untruth. Similarly: to insinuate that the actions of Hamas, its allies behind neighbouring borders, and the proxies pulling the strings from behind a curtain are simply in the service of those displaced, terrorised, and plundered by an apartheid agenda is an oversimplification of a narrative that requires significantly more context. Let’s tell it like it be. Innocents souls have been massacred ruthlessly by evil-mongering, pathetic terrorists on both sides of this narrative for at least two or three generations now (if not more). As we observe September 11 today, I'm reminded of the recommendations of Professor Ben Saul, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Protecting Human Rights while Countering Terrorism, to Fund 9/11 memorial work that captures the multifaceted aspects of the 9/11 experience and its complex #HumanRights legacy and meaningfully engages with victims and families; and Advance comprehensive federal legislation to protect the human rights of all victims of terrorism.
