#recruiterlife / #momlife : My 11-year-old had her big mock interview at school yesterday, eyeing those top-tier roles of Owner/Operator and CFO with companies in "Biztown". Guess where she sets her sights? Chick-fil-A Restaurants-fil-A and QuikTrip. She wants to be the next Arthur Greeno. Why? Well, it's all about stellar customer service, quality products(Chick-fil-A sandwiches and QT pretzels), sparkling clean environments, and philanthropic and community involvement. Naturally, as a recruiter mom, we dive into prep mode. We're hitting up their websites, digging through mission statements, and even speculating on possible interview questions. She's listing off her community service/volunteer roles with the Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and Iron Gate - Tulsa, giving basketball/teamwork scenarios, and proudly proclaiming her fiscal prowess from saving allowances to selling her nearly new toys for investment towards her PlayStation and other big-ticket items (she saves and pays for 1/2 of these higher-cost purchases). Come interview morning, she's in full role-play mode, ready to dazzle. Fast forward to pick-up time, and I pop the question: "How'd it go?" Her response? A hesitant "Okay, I think?" Classic. 😊 So, what did they ask? She draws a blank. Not a single question sticks. And her responses? Lost in the void. She looks at me, worried, and asks, "Mom, is that bad?", "I'm not going to get the job, am I?" I just burst out laughing. "Honey, welcome to the club! You're 98.5% candidates out there, interviewing every day." Moral of the story? Take notes, have questions prepared in advance, breathe, and learn from your interviews, for the next time around. After all, practice makes perfect, even for mini-CEOs in the making! And just like I told her, "You probably aced it, don't sweat it!" #yougotthis

What's one controversial take regarding your employment or office work in general? I would love to know the different opinions of various people, especially those considered a bit more unorthodox. I'll go first! - I believe that finding a good hire now is better than waiting for the perfect/a better candidate who may or may not show up. My thought process has always been in line with the adage "A bird in hand is worth two in the bush". Do you agree with my opinion, or do you feel like it cannot be generalized and varies from industry to industry? Let me know in the comments!

Executive & Career Transition Coach | Unretirement Advocate | Spiritual Psychologist | Helping Mid-Career Professionals Rediscover Their Deeper Purpose, Rebuild Their Confidence, & Pivot to Meaningful, Rewarding Careers
In this fast-paced interview, I had a great time with Max Chan discussing career reinvention strategies - especially after a layoff. Take the opportunity to reframe the layoff as a chance to redefine your professional path. While it’s nice to feel confident, don’t wait to feel confident before forging ahead. Above all, forget about trying to find your career “bliss.” Start by finding your usefulness and dine out on that. If you have stared down the barrel of a career interruption and you’re looking to renew your sense of purpose and direction, give this episode a listen. https://lnkd.in/eBWJreky #newjob #careerdevelopment #careerpivot #careercoaching #careergrowth #jobseeker #executivecoaching #networking #personalbranding #thoughtleadership #gethired #careeradvice

Everything rests on your ability to communicate. As a professional speaker and coach, I give you the confidence + clarity to create impact when you talk about yourself and your work.
You can't beat glowing feedback as a way to wind up the work week. From Milwaukee's PONG group for job-seekers: "You gave our members a lot to consider with "Magnetic Introductions--How to Have Them at Hello." And we had record breaking attendance. It was especially valuable to have you share your experience and expertise from your extensive background as a professional speaker, business owner, radio host, communicator, and author. The workshop was very valuable for those brave enough to share and those who were learning from the examples of others." The official review came with an invitation to come back and do it again. Meantime, I've had messages from members too. One of my favorites: "Great session! I love the focus on talking like a person rather than a resume." Amen to that, right? And this is the place to add one last thing. Maybe those in YOUR organization could communicate with more confidence and clarity? We should talk. #businesscommunication #WorkshopsThatWork
