With the UK government's proposed reforms to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), HEMSPAN Ltd. is poised to thrive like never before! The reforms focus on: Sustainable Development: Emphasising eco-friendly construction and prioritising green building materials aligns perfectly with Hemspan's commitment to sustainable solutions. Hemp-based products will be in higher demand as developers seek to meet new green standards. Housing Supply: The push to increase the housing supply will lead to a surge in construction projects. HEMSPAN Ltd's innovative BIOHAUS® system is ideal for developers searching for sustainable MMC options that meet the new regulatory requirements. Renewable Energy: Encouraging the use of renewable energy sources in new developments dovetails with our mission to reduce the carbon footprint of the construction industry. HEMSPAN Ltd's BIOHAUS® system is net-positive energy, on average over the year, it produces more energy from renewable energy sources than it imports from external sources. In addition, BIOHAUS® system supports energy-efficient building design specifications including installing water-saving taps, using grey or rainwater for toilets and gardening. Design Quality: Higher standards for design and aesthetics in new developments will showcase the unique advantages of climate-positive materials, which offer both durability and a natural aesthetic appeal. Climate Resilience: Building climate-resilient infrastructure aligns with our mission to develop the bio-based, circular systems to capture and store atmospheric carbon in buildings, and deliver climate-positive community living at scale. We are excited about the opportunities these reforms bring and are ready to support developers and builders in creating a greener, more sustainable future. Dear Minister Husic, Your Ministerial Round Table meeting today in Melbourne presents a crucial opportunity to address the issue of scalability in advanced modular construction platforms in Australia. Currently, the concept of "prefabrication" remains a "Cottage Industry" in the country, lacking the scalability needed for significant growth to meet the diabolical shortfalls in affordable housing in Australia; prefabrication in dwellings carting them around on semi-trailers across the country is not the answer either new thinking is required in scalable solutions such as advanced modular in sustainable stored carbon materials such as utilizing the world's resources to solve the immediate crisis not a solution in decades away. Minister, it's important to note that advanced modular construction, particularly in Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), offers incredible designs and a speedy route to market implementation. Demonstrating the vast potential of renewable plantation forest trees transformed into CLT is vital for advancing this sector. One impactful step the Federal Government could take is to mandate that 50% of all surplus Federal Government land earmarked for residential use must be allocated for affordable housing. Emulating the successful model by the Mayor of London, where this approach has resulted in over 30,000 additional affordable dwellings, could significantly benefit the Australian housing landscape. With over 100,000 major CLT reference projects globally, our Thrive Alliance consortia members are ready to introduce scalability into the Australian market. This presents a unique opportunity for substantial GDP growth, especially considering the untapped potential of new renewable plantation forest resources in Australia. While approximately 30% of Australian renewable forest trees go to waste, Scandinavian and EU countries have shown how 100% utilization of this resource can lead to new industries and lucrative export markets worldwide. 🌍 Get ready for new EU regulations: Renovation of Inefficient Buildings! 🏢 📣 Attention real estate portfolio holders! The European Union is introducing new regulations that will mandate the renovation of highly inefficient buildings. As part of the Green New Deal, the Union aims to increase energy efficiency standards, including the upcoming Zero Emission Standard for new constructions. Additionally, developers and asset managers must closely monitor other energy-saving targets for 2030 in both primary and final energy consumption across the EU. Asset and portfolio managers, take note: by 2030, a country's least efficient 16% of building stock must undergo renovation. While member states define measures to meet these goals, it's time to assess your portfolio. Identify inefficient buildings, diagnose potential issues, and consider conducting energy audits to prepare for upcoming regulations. Ready to adapt to these regulations? PART L: A STEPPING STONE TO SUSTAINABLE HOUSING. The recent update to Part L of the Building Regulations (June 2022) marks a significant step towards a more sustainable housing industry in the UK. These regulations mandate a 31% reduction in carbon emissions for new homes, pushing the construction sector to adopt innovative solutions. Key Considerations under Part L: Maximizing Building Envelope Efficiency: Stricter insulation standards are crucial for minimizing heat loss and reducing energy consumption. This may involve thicker wall insulation, high-performance windows, and air tightness testing. Shifting Towards Low-Carbon Heating Systems: Traditional boilers face limitations under the new regulations. Renewable energy sources like air source heat pumps (ASHPs) are gaining traction due to their ability to operate efficiently at lower temperatures (around 55°C), which aligns perfectly with Part L requirements. Optimizing Heating System Design: Underfloor heating systems, when paired with heat pumps and low-flow water circulation, can contribute to achieving Part L compliance. The Road Ahead: Part L presents both challenges and opportunities for national housebuilders. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing are key to navigating these changes. Exploring innovative materials, construction techniques, and renewable energy sources will be crucial in building a sustainable future for UK housing. WMS Underfloor Heating is committed to supporting the construction industry in meeting these new standards. We offer a range of low-temperature UFH systems, that can contribute to achieving Part L compliance. Let's work together to build a more energy-efficient future for our children! #SustainableBuilding #PartL #EnergyEfficiency #BuildingForTheFuture #PartL

The African building stock is set to increase significantly in the coming years, with emerging urban centres projected to become mega-cities. However, the buildings and construction sector is responsible for 36% of global final energy demand and 39% of energy- and process-related emissions. To address this, we need to work together to identify and implement solutions for the #builtenvironment. This includes improving integrated urban planning and clean energy systems, adopting building codes and MEPS for appliances and equipment, and using low-carbon materials. There's an information gap on material use and its carbon intensity, and we need to build the evidence base and support tools for zero-carbon new building construction. We also need to ensure that existing and new buildings are resilient in the face of a changing climate. These needs represent opportunities for #trailblazers, #entrepreneurs, #disruptors, #data, #renewableenergy, #appliances, #architects, and the #designcommunity to communicate and collaborate.

The government unveiled plans to remove barriers preventing owners of historic homes from improving their energy efficiency. Owners of homes built before 1919 currently pay an average of £428 more annually if their residences lack energy efficiency measures. The aim is to reduce energy bills without compromising the architectural integrity and beauty of these properties. Suggested measures include a new national development policy for historic buildings and exploring the use of Listed Building Consent Orders which would remove the need to submit individual listed building consent applications. There will also be clearer guidance for historic homeowners and a consultation on reforms to improve the accuracy of Energy Performance Certificates.
