The real story on attitudes towards immigration is complex in the USA, but more unified and forward-leaning than some of the headlines would suggest. An April poll by news organization Axios showed that Americans favor lawful immigration by a large margin: 68% said illegal immigration causes major problems in communities, while only 27% said the same about legal immigration. Annie Pforzheimer, retired career diplomat with the personal rank of Minister Counselor from the Department of State and member of the Council on Foreign Relations, unpacks how the US election pushes tighter borders. #henleypassportindex #henleyglobalmobilityreport #globalmobility #travelfreedom #visafreetravel #passportpower #henleyandpartners #investmentmigration

Immigration is a net positive for the US version of capitalism. Understandably the indigenous peoples of the "Americas" have a dimmer view of immigration and the capitalism it embraced. With each successive wave of immigration, the US economy grew. Taxes were collected. Innovation spread over two hundred years and the USA has emerged as a work in progress. All of us aspiring to be a better place than where our ancestors came from. A beacon for what a representative democracy in the form of republic can accomplish. Immigration can also help keep the USA's population from flat lining like so many other nations have already; with many more on the cusp. Increase the funding for the proper facilitation of immigration infrastructure and the USA will sail into the 22nd Century still a beacon of what can be achieved through collaboration at the federal, state and local level. Democrats/Republicans are all Immigrants, Citizens, and enjoy the protections of the same constitution. ANV

The Political Implications of Biden's Immigration Policies and Rising Tensions Under the current administration, the political landscape surrounding immigration has become increasingly fraught, with policies inadvertently serving as political leverage for opposing parties. The critique that President Joe Biden is inadvertently aiding his political adversaries, particularly by bolstering former President Donald Trump's platform, underscores the contentious nature of the immigration debate. The suggestion that Biden's approach to immigration is indirectly benefiting Trump, save for directly voting for him, reflects the deep divisions and political maneuvering at play. The administration's handling of immigration has faced significant criticism, described by some as a "complete failure" that has resulted in what is perceived as an unchecked influx of migrants through the U.S.'s Southern Border. Reports of migrants coming from diverse global regions, including Pakistan, China, South America, and Africa, underscore the global dimension of the crisis. This situation is portrayed as a "free for all" that has escalated since Biden assumed office, intensifying debates around national security and immigration policy. Moreover, this influx and the administration's response have been linked to an exacerbation of racial tensions and xenophobia within the country. High-profile incidents, such as controversial posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) by figures like Elon Musk, have contributed to an increasingly polarized environment. The debate extends beyond the realm of policy to touch upon the broader societal implications, including a rise in racially motivated discourse and legislation. These developments have deeply politicized the issue of immigration, with critics arguing that the current administration's policies not only fail to address the complexities of migration but also inadvertently fuel political opposition and social divisions. As the U.S. grapples with these challenges, the political, social, and humanitarian implications of its immigration policies continue to be a pivotal and highly contentious aspect of the national discourse.

One hundred years ago this month, the 1924 Immigration Act marked a pivotal moment in US history and dramatically limited immigration for decades. Because of the law, which was based on the racist “science” of eugenics, the United States prioritized immigration from Northern and Western Europe, restricted arrivals from Eastern and Southern Europe, and prevented virtually all immigration from Asia and Africa. The law made it possible for the US to refuse help to persecuted Jews and others fleeing the Holocaust, and pushed US immigration to record lows. A century may seem like a long time ago. But our article explains why the 1924 act continues to cast an imprint today.

America never denies it is a nation of immigrants and immigration is a vibrant currency that fuels our social and economic dynamism. However, we want LEGAL IMMIGRATION not people breaking into America because of challenges in their homeland. THE NUISANCE OF OTHER NATIONS SHOULD NOT BE A BURDEN for the USA. Maybe in the past - Come ONE Come ALL was attractive. We have long instituted laws, and they must be respected. Or offenders thrown out. While we live in a global village, we still maintain boundaries and those boundaries ought to be respected. American politicians often compare America’s southern border to Swiss cheese. It is more like a black hole. Its gravitational pull is so strong that officials can think only of enforcement and security (or the good electoral politics that come with harping on about enforcement and security). The names of small, dusty border towns—Eagle Pass, Jacumba Hot Springs—have never been so well known. The black hole leaves little time to consider the other parts of America’s creaking immigration system, such as refugees, skilled-worker visas, or reforming quotas that are decades out of date. No one should be a REFUGEE from their own country. That was in the years of colonial administrations and civil wars, now nations should fight their home government to remain in or leave voluntarily. No more spillover of people because their home government elects to be abusive and thereby cause other nations to be burdened by the NUISANCE.

US President Joe Biden is formally passing his party’s torch to Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention this week. This decision ensures a new president will take office next January, marking a new chapter in US immigration history. What is Biden’s legacy in the immigration policy arena? Here are some of the key developments: • ✍️The Biden administration is on pace to become the most active ever on immigration, issuing more immigration-related executive actions than any other presidency • 📈 Record numbers of unauthorized arrivals at the U.S.-Mexico border dominated key periods of Biden’s tenure • 🌃 A swelling number of immigrants have “twilight statuses” that provide temporary protection from deportation and work permits but do not lead to permanent residence • 🗪 Increased coordination with Latin American countries on migration management & providing opportunities closer to individuals’ origin countries Read more https://lnkd.in/etTqPr3Y
