Well. Petro Chem 2024 Day 2. Sitting in the parking lot of the The Westin Calgary Airport looking to summarize day two at the #petrochem2024 conference. In short, next year just go. If not find the conference that relates to your profession and go. Learn and contribute to your industry.
Day 2 starts with Marc Laplante speaking on AMS's and bringing us back to where #assetmanagement comes from in ISO 55xxx and the framework these publications provide all organizations on their campaign in AM. Marc has serious depth and knowledge in this space and you should absolutely connect with him. As an aspiring asset management professional I intend on finding myself in the rooms he is.
Then we roll over to a panel moderated by Susan Lubell that carries some serious depth in having Marc Laplante, Brent Seewalt, Alan Cox and Glen McMurray from #Nutrien share input on "The Future of Maintenance Management" You couldn't possibly try and tame this topic in 40 minutes or less, but they all share some impacting tidbits. The takeaway for me here with comments around AI and technology is the future WILL be led with #people first. People that can use AI and technology will just make it that much better, but you'll have to #train them.
Next we delve into "Older Facilities that Still Have Life" moderated by Bruce Taylor with Chris Klein, Steven Jacquin, David Vlajic, MBA, PMP, Bradley Walker and Cory Roberts. Extending the lifecycle of assets creates value and demands strong risk management and change management is what I got from this short session. This again comes back to #people.
We close out the morning session with Frank Engli, P.Eng. moderating a panel on "STO in a Competitive Landscape". He is joined by Kyle P., Paul Kristensen, Eric Michaud and Peter Reier. Another panel just bursting with knowledge and experience. I won't suggest the numbers of years. I am trying to #network and make friends. Nonetheless, they drill into how organizations can compete and succeed in their STO efforts. Guess what the underlying theme for me is? PEOPLE. I am starting to think I am biased.
We close out with one of the most impacting keynote speakers I have EVER been in the company of with Aaron Peck from Elevation Sled Dog Adventures. The summary of this, if I can is a separate post. I have to drive back home to Stony Plain, AB and reflect on what Aaron shared with us and how his experience as a competitor in the #iditarod should inspire the way we look at planning and how to overcome challenges in the execution and become better the next time whether that be new installations, PM programs, STO, even in your own life.
Thanks to Ron Bettin, MBA, CMC and his team, along with Rina Sibbeston and Roska DBO Inc. and EventWorx Corporation for putting Petro Chem West 2024 together. I'll admit, I was rather intimidated to be in this room at the start but very satisfied that I came and got to hang with all!
