Great insights, from Jonas Berge! His presentation on "Refiner’s Guide to Digital Transformation and Industrial AI" at #ADSARTCACCA2024 was truly enlightening. 🙌 The deep dive into how AI can optimize refining and petrochemicals operations—from advanced process control to equipment failure prediction—showcased the potential of combining #MachineLearning, #DeepLearning, #CausalAI, and #GenAI for different applications. 🌐 Looking forward to seeing how these technologies will continue to shape the future of refining! #DigitalTransformation #IndustrialAI #Downstream #Refining #TechnologyLeadership
I spoke on “Refiner’s Guide to Digital Transformation and Industrial AI” at the Asian Downstream Summit #ADSARTCACCA2024 I covered #industrialAI with a slant towards applications in the refining and petrochemicals industries including for production, reliability, sustainability, and more: ⚗️Advanced Process Control (APC) copilot ⚗️Planning and scheduling Linear Programming (LP) optimization copilot ⚗️Multi-unit dynamic optimization first principles (1P) and regression hybrid modelling 🔧Equipment failure prediction 🔧Corrosion prediction 🔧Valve failure prediction 🔧Rotating equipment failure prediction 🍃Heat transfer surface cleaning optimization 🍃Relief valve failure detection 🍃Steam trap failure detection 🖹Control system control strategy interpretation and conversion The key takeaway is that no single #AI technology covers all these applications. #MachineLearning, deep learning, #CausalAI, and generative AI (GenAI) are good at different things, and each has its application areas. I&C engineers must learn which technology to use for which application. I also covered the need for a sensing infrastructure as the foundation of AI: AI needs sensors for input just like a brain needs senses for input. Before you can ‘connect the dots’, you have to ‘collect the dots’.
