Sarcoma awareness month is important because it brings attention to an often neglected but lethal cancer. Most people are unaware of this particular form of cancer. This limits people’s interest in researching it. By celebrating “sarcoma awareness month”, we can encourage people to explore this under-researched cancer. This can help advance medicine and save the lives of many. Such events also provide the much-needed support that cancer fighters need to handle the difficulties and uncertainties of sarcoma. #SarcomaAwareness #BeatCancer #CHCS #GeorgiaPCA 💛🦴🩺

The European Society of Breast Imaging European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI) recommendations are that all women should be advised about their Breast Density. https://lnkd.in/gp8gK8Na "Breast density is an independent risk factor for the development of breast cancer and also decreases the sensitivity of mammography for screening. Consequently, women with extremely dense breasts face an increased risk of late diagnosis of breast cancer. These women are, therefore, underserved with current mammographic screening programs. The results of recent studies reporting on contrast-enhanced breast MRI as a screening method in women with extremely dense breasts provide compelling evidence that this approach can enable an important reduction in breast cancer mortality for these women and is cost-effective. Because there is now a valid option to improve breast cancer screening, the European Society of Breast Imaging (EUSOBI) recommends that women should be informed about their breast density" Breast density describes the amount of fibroglandular tissue in the breast relative to the amount of fatty tissue. In clinical practice, Breast Density is categorized into 4 distinct areas according to the American College of Radiology BI-RADS atlas terminology as follows a. The breasts are almost entirely fatty (about 10% of the screening population [3]) b. There are scattered areas of fibroglandular density (about 42% of the screening population) c. The breasts are heterogeneously dense, which may obscure small masses (about 40% of the screening population) d. The breasts are extremely dense, which lowers the sensitivity of mammography (about 8% of the screening population) The latter two categories are commonly referred to as ‘dense’ breasts. Besides the risk of 'masking' breast cancer, women with extremely dense breasts in the screening age range have an increased risk of developing breast cancer, which is approximately twice as high as for the ‘average’ woman, and almost 4–6 times as high as in women with almost entirely fatty breasts Dr Therese McGlacken National Screening Service, HSE
#BreastCheck, Ireland's national breast screening programme, is for women aged 50 to 69 who have no symptoms of breast cancer. In our latest blog, Dr Therese McGlacken explains the breast screening age range, and how #screening aims to find breast cancer early when it can be easier to treat.
