The RA/QA Director didn’t get the resources they needed so they left. The company isn’t hiring a replacement straight away, so the team has to pull together. The Regulatory Manager has had to work ridiculous hours, working to tight deadlines, with even fewer resources. So they’ve put in their notice. The rather desperate counteroffer didn’t fly, it's not about the money, they will be leaving in 2 weeks. The Quality Manager and two Regulatory Specialists are now also actively looking. This. Is. All. So. Very. Avoidable. Cost, time, resources, impact on regulatory compliance, delays in product registrations, disruption to key processes, further staff turnover, and the blow to company culture when entire teams start to leave. Losing key people doesn't just disrupt compliance and deadlines—it shakes the foundation of the team and can affect the whole organisation. A high turnover rate creates instability, erodes trust, and undermines the culture that was built over the years. Morale dips, collaboration falters, and remaining employees question their own future. When teams feel undervalued and unsupported, they walk—and often take the best parts of the company’s culture with them. Had leadership listened to and trusted the RA/QA Director's advice about needing extra resources, all of this could have been avoided. Do you need a quality control manager(QCM), quality control (QC), or quality assurance (QA) officer? This post is not meant to encourage negligence, laziness, compromise or inability to multi task. I saw an advertisement from a company seeking a QC/QA officer, and the job summary listed responsibilities that combined the roles of a QCM, QC, and QA. Remember, there are differences between these three positions: A quality control manager[QCM] oversees the entire quality control process, develops policies, and manages both quality control and quality assurance efforts to maintain product standards. Quality control officer [QC] focuses on inspecting and testing products to ensure they meet specified standards and quality assurance officer [QA ] involves developing and monitoring processes to ensure consistent quality. I have experienced a situation where I served as a QA officer, QCM, and R&D. It was not easy but I managed the roles well, thank God I did not break down. Stop making the QC job cumbersome so that they can focus on their quality role. While versatility is valuable, expecting someone to handle the responsibilities of three positions and still deliver quality results is unrealistic. If you want to post a job vacancy, please do thorough research to understand the roles before posting. Expecting a QC or QA officer to also take on roles such as research and development [R&D], QCM, marketer, and more with a minimal salary is unfair and impractical. Please, let's do better so we can achieve quality results. For the quality control or quality assurance officers, this post is not an excuse to be lazy and blame your company for making your work tedious. Do not compromise or neglect your duties. To manage a heavy and challenging workload, prioritize your tasks, seek support from your team, and communicate effectively with your superiors about the challenges you face. Here is a fun question/scenario going into the weekend! Scenario: You search on your favorite job site for a specific role. (Let’s use Quality Assurance Manager) You get a bunch of results and find one that looks good. As you read it, the skills they need are like a checklist for your skillset and then you get to that one line…. Requires 5 years experience in the medical device field (or any other field that is not related to software, or your field). You are disappointed but you move on….So the question is: “How do you tailor your search without the fear of missing a role but not looking through so many roles that do not apply?
