"We are going to promote you. But we cannot increase your pay, and your title will remain the same. But in the system it will show that we promoted you into this new leader lane, which will allow you to have directs. The visibility and exposure will give you the experience you asked for." HARD stop on this. It is not a promotion. It is not a "good feeling" for the employee. A new leader lane? Is it paved, or lined with more manure? And visibility and exposure will not pay the bills. This is bullshittery at a high level. Promotions and recognition should not be like this. Under-the-table and unseen. *This employee resigned after the "promotion." Landed in a better org, higher pay, and a leadership team that invests in their people.
