Our Taco channel on Slack, powered by HeyTaco, is a space where our team members recognize each other throughout the day with shoutouts and messages of appreciation that include taco emojis. 🥂 Giving Cheers. On Fridays, team members meet on Zoom to give cheers to peers. That means we raise our glass (or cup or bottle) collectively in real time to share the small and big impacts people and teams made that week. 🎂 + 🌮 Cake Days & Taco Days: These sweet & savoury annual social events are when we gather together—in person or virtually—to eat tacos and cake to celebrate our team and our biggest wins of the year. Day 3 about Tech Stack was another great session. Johann mentions that FreeAgent has a superior API than other bookkeeping softwares, but it is essential to link up integrations for the best efficiency. Mettle, RBS, Ulster, Natwest are all banks that integrate with freeAgent. 💡 I am poised to add Dext to my Tech Stack. 🌱

Sometimes overdelivering is the wrong thing to do. I once read that if McDonalds introduced silver cutlery it would be a waste of money. That immediately makes sense right? But I’m not talking about silver cutlery in the wrong setting here. I launched my course and community for parents in February and in addition to gaining access to the library of videos I’d created, there was a monthly live group call. Then I decided to up that to twice weekly calls. I thought it would make joining the community more attractive. And mean that members had more choice and flexibility. But I made a mistake. What ended up happening was that I was often sitting alone in the zoom room. Or one person would join and have a one-on-one with me which was lovely of course, but which somewhat defeated the object of creating the shared solidarity and camaraderie of a community. I reached out to the members and asked them what they thought about the frequency of calls. They all said that because they were so frequent there was no urgency to join one. They didn’t mark their calendars or ringfence the time to attend. Because just like buses, there’d be another one along soon enough. And so I’ve shifted now to twice monthly calls, one in the evening and one at lunchtime. I’ve not hosted a community before. I’m still learning. Let’s go Quench It Soda !! Now that’s a discount program I can get behind. This made our ordering and window experience hilarious!! Sara did a great job, but we laughed about how cool it was to have this as a discount. Whether my wife and I realized it, we drove up to order with a smile on our face. We made a point to ask our order takers name, chatted with them, kept smiling, left with a smile. Know what I mean?? Gratitude affects us, in the best ways you can imagine. It brings out charity and selflessness, something you can’t fake and something that always does good from one human to the next. We had a bit of time to kill before our kids rec league game, and we are grateful we had the opportunity to give what seemed like a meaningless compliment, but as I think about it now, how many meetings were held about this idea? What effect is it having on the culture? The employee experience? Here’s the truth, if you don’t have incredible EX (employee experience) you’re never going to have incredible CX (customer experience) EX = CX Put your employees first, they will take care of your customers because you take care of them. 🌟 Around 2 weeks ago, our team gathered at Gloucester Brewery Ltd, buzzing with excitement and ready to take on the challenge of a pub quiz. As questions flew and our minds raced, we found ourselves in the thick of a fierce competition and it was great fun. But as the final scores were tallied, we discovered we were just 1 point shy of victory! 🏆 Yet, as we reflected on the evening, it dawned on us that the true win wasn't in the leaderboard standings. The real triumph was in the camaraderie we shared and the support we extended to a noble cause. The quiz was organized to support the Hollie Gazzard Trust which is a beacon of hope for the Gloucester community. In business, as in life, it's easy to get caught up in the race to "win" - to outperform, to exceed, to be the best. But let's take a moment to ask ourselves, "What truly defines winning?" 🤔 Is it the relentless pursuit of being at the top? Or is it the joy we find in the journey, the growth we experience, and the support we offer to causes greater than ourselves? 🌱 This experience is about fostering "Joy in the Workplace" (something very close to my heart) by celebrating the spirit of giving, supporting, and being committed to a cause greater than any single victory. So, here's to the nights we don't win by points but triumph in spirit, to the lessons learned, and to the joy found in supporting each other and our communities. Thanks to everyone for the continued conversation about the climate in downtown Raleigh and all the great ideas you have brought forth. Let's move into another era of a thriving Downtown. With all this being said I did want to take advantage of this attention for some self-promotion (I mean this is LinkedIn). What have we done to adapt and improve ourselves here at Crank Arm Brewing Company ? We have worked on overall customer experience. Increased training for staff members. Added health benefits for all employees who work over 20 hours per week including vision, dental, short-term disability and life insurance. Upgraded our POS to speed up check out times and to reduce paper waste. Worked closely with the Downtown Raleigh Alliance on the Sip n' Stroll social district and to add a Food Truck zone on Davie St. Added a spirits program that incorporates local beverage producers into our lineup. (We realize that not everyone loves beer) Added more weekly events including Music Bingo on Mondays, Trivia on Thursdays and a faster speed, longer distance ride on Sundays. Having more themed community events more frequently than twice a year or once a quarter. Added a community outreach specialist who's mission is to engage with local business and communities to find way to collaborate and to drive traffic to the tasting room. Five Bullet Friday - Ask for a Sandwich Hello Team, Today, instead of our usual list of points, I want to share a story that’s been on my mind, especially as many of us are focused on growing our ACO line of business. It’s a lesson I've learned time and again in life. Let me explain with what I like to call the "Ask for a Sandwich" story. I live close to the San Francisco Airport, near a bustling intersection with a 24/7 donut shop and a 24/7 Mexican restaurant on adjacent corners. Needless to say, there’s a lot of foot traffic. One morning, as I was heading to my car to leave for work, a middle-aged woman approached me. She appeared to be transient but wasn’t under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, she was non-verbal, not responding directly to my questions but instead pointing toward the Mexican restaurant. Thinking she was hungry, I followed her and continued to ask if she wanted a breakfast burrito or a breakfast sandwich since they serve those there. She didn’t respond but walked past the Mexican restaurant and headed into the donut shop across the street. She pointed to a few items, picked them up, nodded her thanks, and went on her way. That moment left a lasting impression on me. I thought about how brave she was to approach a total stranger, unable to verbally communicate or perhaps not speaking the same language. All she had to do was "ask for a sandwich." In this case, she got donuts instead, but the essence of the lesson remains: sometimes all we have to do is ask. Now, what does this have to do with our ACO? Recently, several providers in our region have joined our ACO simply because we asked them: "Would you like to join?" That got me thinking, what else in life can we achieve if we just ask? What do you want to accomplish that could be on the other side of asking? Of course, asking doesn’t always guarantee we get what we want immediately. This isn’t a genie-in-a-bottle scenario. But it’s a reminder that if there are things we want in life, we need to ask and work hard for them. Listening to the responses provides valuable feedback that can bring us closer to our goals.
