Next-gen Audi A5, Q5 and all-new A6 e-tron confirmed for 2024 global debut https://ift.tt/FNQodsa Audi recently announced at its annual sales conference that it has as many as 20 new model launches lined up globally over the course of one year. Chief among these will be an all-new generation of the A5 sedan and Q5 SUV, as well as the all-electric A6 e-tron sedan. Speaking to Autocar India on the sidelines of the Q6 e-tron's global debut, Balbir Singh Dhillon, head of Audi India, confirmed the same saying, “There will be an all-electric A6 e-tron sedan this year, and there’s also new generations of the A5 and Q5 coming.” Audi A6 e-tron: what to expect? The A6 e-tron – first previewed in 2021 as a concept bearing the same name – was originally supposed to go into production in 2023. However, with Audi showcasing the Q6 e-tron, the A6 e-tron should also be revealed soon as it shares the same PPE (Premium Platform Electric) architecture with its SUV cousin that's been co-developed with Porsche. So, one can expect a 100kWh battery pack with over 600km claimed range, and dual motor all-wheel drive and single motor rear-wheel drive configurations. Visually, it shouldn’t stray too far from the concept as the Q6 e-tron’s design is also pretty close to its own concept. The A6 e-tron will also inherit Audi’s new E3 1.2 electronic architecture, an all-new interior layout with curved screens and all the latest lighting technology from the Q6 e-tron. Next-gen Audi A5, Q5: what to expect? On the combustion side, the A5 and Q5 will see all-new generations, which will be based on VW's MLB architecture and likely debut in the second half of 2024. Both these models will also be among the last ICE models to get an all-new generation as Audi intends to launch its final cars with combustion powertrains in 2026, beyond which all new models will be electric-only. The next-gen A5 and Q5 are expected to be powered by electrified combustion engines, likely in plug-in hybrid guise. Prototypes spied testing overseas have hinted at an evolutionary design with familiar Audi design cues, but the interior and digital interface could be borrowed from the newer EVs as that’s soon going to be rolled out across Audi’s entire model range. Will these models come to India? The Q5 is one of Audi’s more popular models in India, so the new-gen SUV will definitely come here in due course. Meanwhile, the A5 is offered in its sporty S5 and RS5 guises in India, but it remains to be seen if new generations of these sports sedans are also brought down here. As for the A6 e-tron, Audi has already confirmed that its SUV cousin is launching by late-2024 or early-2025, so this too is likely to come here. In fact, the company is very keen on localisation and expansion of its EV portfolio in India, which will be key if it has to achieve its target of 50 percent EV sales by 2030. The Audi Q8 E-tron’s new S-line appearance package could be its last hurrah https://ift.tt/PqLcmfz It looks like the SQ8 E-tron, but it’s not. | Image: Audi Audi is giving its all-electric Q8 E-tron some premium add-on packages across the lineup as the automaker’s overall EV sales are falling quarter over quarter this year. The 2025 Audi Q8 E-tron SUV and Sportback now have a “sportier” S-line competition appearance package that feels a bit like a parts bin consolidation. It adds body components from the $90,000 SQ8 E-tron, making the vehicle wider, and includes a body-color Singleframe and special 21-inch five-spoke black wheels. It also gets black-painted brake calipers with S branding and door projection lights for the edition. While the package is only launching in Europe right now, the company is “evaluating” bringing it to the US as well, according to Audi’s product communications manager Nathan Hoyt. There is some speculation that the automaker could end production of the vehicles due to a significant drop in demand. Clean Technica reported Audi’s EV sales were down from 7.411 vehicles in Q4 2023 to 5,714 in Q1 2024. And earlier this year, Car and Driver reported that Audi was considering an early end to the Q8 E-tron’s production. However, Hoyt tells me there are “no plans at this time to end production of the Q8 e-tron.” The 2025 Q8 E-tron lineup, starting at $74,800, was announced in early July, and it added new standard options, including Homelink buttons and Remote park assist plus that lets you park the car into tight spots while standing outside the vehicle. There’s also a Magnesium package that black out the colors and adds matte gold to the wheels. The Q8 E-tron’s just announced S-line appearance package also adds new carbon fiber components embedded in places like the front air curtains, side view mirrors, and on parts of all four doors. Of course, the real SQ8 E-tron models have the carbon fiber components, too — but only part of the Carbon Style package add-on. Audi also includes the SQ8 E-tron’s adaptive air suspension sport system with the S-line package, giving the regular Q8 E-tron the ability to change the ride height and add dynamic damping control for better comfort. While the Q8 E-tron’s future is in question, Audi is working to bring the new A6 E-tron series which will likely have better range and a slicker appearance. Audi’s electric vehicle lineup has long had poorer range compared to Tesla, Ford, and Kia. And while Audi’s Porsche Taycan-based E-tron GT is a great effort, it’s far too expensive for a mainstream luxury EV. Meanwhile, the rest of the industry is in a price-slashing competition, trying to get customers to choose their EV over the other — especially over Tesla (which is struggling to get new buyers.) 🚨 Any Porsche 356 fans? 🚨 Lets talk Pre-A 356’s. From 1950 to 1955 the 356 had many changes: 1950: The first German built Reutter bodied 356 was made. The German built car had many aesthetic changes to the Gmund built cars, this included: - Smoothed the rounded lines in a way that erased some of the angular lines of the original coupe. - The bonnet was raised. - The windshield was both wider and lower, it was also given a slight curvature. - the side windows of the coupes were shorter overall, from front to rear and also lower. 1951: - Brakes were fitted with finned aluminum drums. - Rear lever-arm dampers were replaced with telescopic versions. - As an option a tachometer could be installed in place of the large clock next to the speedometer. - Introduction of the 1.3 liter engine (Type 506). The finned cylinders developed by Mahle were now made of aluminum instead of cast iron. - RHD cars were made available. 1952: - Introduction of the one-piece windscreen also known as the ‘bent window’. - A limited production America Roadster was introduced. (16 cars were built) - The steel wheels were fitted with ventilation holes. - A tachometer permanently replaced the clock on the right-hand dial. - The bumpers were wider and fitted with rubber strips. - A lever on the steering column replaced the dash switch for turn signals. - The new series of cars saw the replacement of the three-spoke steering wheel by a two-spoke wheel. This was the first wheel to be specifically designed for Porsche and also the first part of the car to carry the new company crest. 1953: - All models were fitted with a full-synchromesh manual transmission. - Two new 1.5 engines were introduced. - The top-of-the-line model was the 1500 Super. - Improved braking system was fitted, the inside diameter of the drums were increased to 280mm and the brake shoe width increased to 40mm. - Bumpers were mounted further away from bodywork and fitted with overriders. - Front indicators were mounted directly under headlamps. - Gear lever was moved forward by 120mm. - Two large round tail lamps were fitted to the rear. 1954: - Last year if production for the 1.1-liter engine. - Porsche presented the 1300 Super engine fitted with a roller-bearing Hirth crankshaft. - Small chrome horn grilles were fitted to the front of the car. - Porsche presented the new Speedster model. - Inner door panels had newly designed storage pockets. 1955: - Improvements were made to comfort and safety. - In 1955 (last year of the pre-A 356 cars) US importer Max Hoffman convinced Porsche to use a name instead of just a number, these models were fitted with a ‘Continental’ badge on the front wings. #porsche #classiccars #collectorcars #automotivehistory #passion #356

The new Q7 will be one of the last combustion-engine-powered Audi cars as the German brand has plans to introduce electric models only from 2026. Next-gen Q7 to sit on updated MLB platform Will be powered by a new family of engines Will get a panoramic infotainment screen New Audi Q7 design highlights Design-wise, the new Q7 will follow Audi's upcoming Q3 and Q5 in adopting a new-style front end, with an expansive new version of the octagonal grille and sleek, split-cluster LED light designs and a clamshell bonnet. It will get a straight roofline along with a boxy-looking rear in order to continue with a strong emphasis on interior space and boot capacity, but it's not yet clear whether it will be tangibly larger than today's Q7. New Audi Q7 platform details The new Q7 will sit on an evolved version of the MLB architecture that underpins the current Q7. Revisions will be made to accommodate new powertrains, including longer-range plug-in hybrids that will allow it to better compete with rivals. The latest version of the smaller MQB platform, which underpins a raft of Volkswagen Group cars,  can now accommodate a 19.7kWh battery that gives an electric-only range of up to 100km in the PHEV versions of the new Volkswagen Passat sedan and latest Tiguan. The extra floorspace in the MLB platform means it will no doubt be able to accommodate this battery or even a larger pack, boosting the Q7 PHEV's EV range beyond the 42km of today. New Audi Q7 powertrain details Official details on the new Q7's powertrain offering remain under wraps, however, beyond Audi's earlier confirmation that its final generation of ICE cars will be powered by a "completely new family of engines". The Q7 will no doubt continue to be offered with a choice of mild-hybrid petrol and diesel engines, with a warmed-up SQ7 variant topping the line-up with a tweaked version of Audi's twin-turbocharged petrol V8. New Audi Q7 interior highlights Inside, the Q7 will take the lead from the new Q6 e-tron, which sets the tone for a wide-reaching revamp of Audi's approach to cabin design. There will be a panoramic curved interface for the driver display and infotainment, together with a separate touchscreen for the front passenger and an optional augmented-reality head-up display for real-time navigation guidance projections. New Audi Q7 positioning The Q7 is set to relinquish its position as Audi's biggest SUV, as a larger and more luxurious Q9 is due to arrive at around the same time to rival the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
