Txt LDS to 21002 Next-generation Audi Q5 previewed ahead of September 2 unveiling: Audi plans to introduce over 20 new models by the end of 2025, and its next unveiling will be one of the most important ones. The brand previewed the third generation of the Q5, its best-selling model by a significant margin, and announced that a full debut will take place soon. The lone preview image released by Audi shows the new Q5's driver-side headlight. That's not a lot to go on, but it looks markedly thinner and more swept-back than the current-generation model's. Lighting has been part of Audi's design identity for decades, and the new Q5 will keep the tradition going by adopting individual LED elements that might be configurable. The hood features more sculpted styling, too. While it's too early to provide powertrain details, we already know that the next Q5 will not be available with an electric drivetrain. This wasn't confirmed by the brand, but it recently rolled out a new naming system that assigns even-numbered nameplates to EVs and odd-numbered nameplates to gasoline-powered models. For example, the A4 will enter a new generation as the A5, while the A6 is going electric-only. The same goes for SUVs, and applying that logic to the Q5 all but confirms the powertrain portfolio will not include a battery-powered option. Electrification will be an option, however: at least one hybrid system will be available. Gasoline-burning engines will be offered as well. The third-generation Audi Q5 will make its debut online on September 2, and sales should start shortly after. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner noted that the rest of the SUV range will be refreshed after the Q5, so expect to see a lot of new high-riding models emerge in the coming months. Automotive manufacturers use a modular manufacturing approach, producing cars with different designs and options on the same platforms. So basically, it is a Lego principle: when you have the same base but with different compatible pieces, you can create different models. It is pretty efficient for businesses and offers improved flexibility, faster production times, and simplified maintenance and repairs. Many people judge that approach because "Lego variations" are limited, and users buy the same cars but with a different badge on the hood. I like that concept; it definitely changes a lot, including the feeling you get from the car. Nowadays, with "modular manufacturing," "modular feelings" have become our reality. With the platform-sharing concept, the market no longer has infinitely different makes and models. Instead, there are just 30-40 sharing platforms, and there can be just 30-40 feelings for the entire automotive global market. AUDI AG is wading into the lower-cost electric vehicle market with an EV at an entry point below the Q4 e-tron, targeting core segments with a fully electric lineup by 2027. Audi has not revealed much but has hinted at a unique design, possibly a crossover, based on the Volkswagen MEB platform. The Audi A6 Avant e-tron is GOLD for long roof fans, and the SUV EV alternative we need. "EV platforms will ultimately give more leeway and flexibility, not just in the trunk [boot] but also up the front for a potential frunk. Electric vehicles will now also be attractive to customers who prefer automobile concepts beyond the SUV segment”. As you probably know, I'm not a fan of SUVs, and electric SUVs are more common than people with ears. At the same time, I do wish our Model 3 had a little more space. This Audi A6 wagon could be the perfect vehicle: more space, without sacrificing dynamics, efficiency and low seating position. The continued proliferation of EV models and bodystyles is only good news as it means buyers have more choice and less reason to return to an ICE vehicle. What are your thoughts on this lux EV wagon? Audi has once again upgraded its flagship family SUV with a clear design and even better technology. The fresh exterior design with new front and rear sections underscores the powerful character of the SUV, which offers first-class versatility and generous space for up to seven passengers. The new X3 will grow in size, be sleeker, and come with a variety of combustion-engined powertrains. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming X3, which is scheduled to be revealed in June this year, and go into production the month after. New BMW X3 drag coefficient lowered from 0.29 to 0.27 Claimed to be more dynamic and comfortable than outgoing G01 generation To get petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrain options New BMW X3: exterior, chassis highlights While the images released by BMW show an X3 wearing quite a lot of camouflage, the brand claims that it has managed to reduce the SUV’s drag coefficient from 0.29 to 0.27, which should help improve its fuel-efficiency. Although the company has not yet revealed its dimensions, expect the new SUV to outgrow the older model’s 4.7m length and near-1.9m width. The new X3 (codename: G45) is also said to adopt a wider track compared to the outgoing G01 generation, along with a reduced lift at the rear axle. In addition, the brand says rigidity has also increased, and the anti-roll bars have been upgraded to provide a more engaging drive, without compromising on ride quality. BMW will offer an adaptive chassis featuring electronically controlled shock absorbers with new X3, albeit as an optional extra. The company says the there’s a more direct steering ratio for greater comfort, and the latest in safety and driver assistance technology on the new X3; BMW is confident the SUV will score high on Euro NCAP’s crash tests. New BMW X3: interior, powertrain Although the new X3 interior is still under wraps, expect fewer physical buttons than the outgoing model as, like most newer BMWs, most functions can be accessed via the infotainment touchscreen. Rumours online suggest that there won’t be a full-fat X3 M, but BMW is going to have a high-performance version, likely to be the M50, instead of the M40i. Also, there is a high likelihood of the new X3 being the first Bimmer to remove the ‘i’ from its petrol engine line-up; the diesels and plug-in hybrids will continue with the ‘d’ and ‘e’ suffixes. Speaking of hybrids, the German brand says the new X3 plug-in hybrid (likely to be called the X3 (xDrive30e) has an upgraded battery pack for more all-electric range. The X3 EV, launched as the new iX3, is also due a generation change – it was previewed by the Vision Neue Klasse X concept, but it will arrive a year later. Unlike the new X3, which still uses BMW’s CLAR platform, the new iX3 will be underpinned by the Neue Klasse platform.
