It is day 5️⃣ of #SELWeek! Today we're going to look at social awareness. Social Awareness 🤜🏼 🤛🏿 Scripture is consistently appealing to social awareness when instructing Christians. Think of the "Good Samaritan" story. Ruth and Naomi. Paul in Athens. James when giving an example of the sin of partiality. There are so many cases where social awareness is on display. This culminates in the people of God outdoing one another in showing honor in amazing ways that honors and elevates our uniquenesses. Our student should know that people have different stories. Different experiences. Different struggles. And, in many ways, that is where we can find solidarity. Most importantly, it allows us to see that God has placed each person within their time and space so that they might seek and find Him (spoiler alert - He's not far from any of us)! This is a skill that can be taught and can help improve student knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Want to know more about engaging and practicing social awareness from a Christian worldview? Our book can help! #socialemotionallearning #socialemotionaldevelopment #christianeducation 👇 👇 👇

"Young people are being confronted at an increasingly early age by an anti-God, anti-Scripture worldview that desires to influence their minds, attitudes, and behaviors. What do we mean when we say that Thirdmill Seminary is "seminary outside-the-box"? Thirdmill Seminary offers students a fully accredited online theological education that is resourced by content experts in the Bible and Theology from all corners of the global church. And while faculty meet students only in the digital classroom, students also work with their pastors and mentors to apply what they are learning in their local ministry contexts. Thirdmill Seminary is a learning organization that studies how Christians from various parts of the global church understand and apply Scripture in their contexts. Thirdmill Seminary is on-the-job-training in ministry, not the study of abstract ideas for ministry. Thirdmill Seminary is a teacher's school. Because church leaders must be “apt to teach,” we have designed our curriculum to produce effective teachers of the Bible, who appropriate it faithfully in the worship and witness of the Church. Thirdmill Seminary is cost-effective, and affordably priced, partnering with donors, students and their churches to provide and sustain a quality theological education for all who are called and gifted to serve the church, without respect to their gender, ethnic heritage or economic status. Spiritual Formation, part 2. Regardless of the greatness of a schools formal curriculum, if you're not heavily investing in nurturing deep relationships between teachers and students, efforts to grow faith formation will continue to feel like they're not going anywhere. Relationships change us; let's double down on ways we can transfer the life of faith from teachers/coaches to our students. #christianworldview #christianeducation #spiritualformation #faithformation https://lnkd.in/gUDMXUBz

Some really practical questions to consider when looking at Christian colleges, but the article is worthwhile for anyone in education because of its assumption – the whole point of education is formation. Most every Christian school or college would claim for formation (or discipleship) to be their utmost priority. But, when we look at the priorities of programs we build or what we choose to market, it pulls back the curtain and reveals what we really love; and to be honest, it's often our own kingdoms above God's Kingdom. The linked articles within this article are worth reading too, so have fun with the rabbit trail! https://lnkd.in/d9YBy9pH

...Teach them to your Children Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. - God through Moses (Deut. 11: 18-19) As I write this article, about 50 liberal college campuses are staging anti-Israel riots, the amazing thing is that 90% of them were started by "christians" as mission fields to educate for Christ (look at their motto). When God handed the law to Moses, He instructed him to teach the people to ENSURE that these laws are taught to their children, however way they can - memorizing, home study, writing on house walls, or however these laws are embedded on their heart. For the past 100 years, the American church (and its influence across the world) has been corrupted with false teachers and wrong doctrines - whether that be liberal theology or movements - evangelicals and pentecostals (prosperity, cheap grace, prophetic, holly rollers, apostolic, etc.) - all a rebrand of biblical truth (but poisoned enough for damage to souls). In the later 1960s and early 1970s, there was a shift in the body of Christ, the shift was supposed to be against legalism but it ended up leading the church into being "permissive" of relativism theories (the world's philosophies). In not wanting to be legalistic like our forefathers, we bent and blend God's Truth - we no longer teach truth that sets free in other not to judge, we redefined grace from the Cross to "license to sin", we removed discipleship and in-depth bible study with weekly "entertainment" (really numbers for bucks), we no longer EQUIP saints for work of ministry rather we equip them to be efficient in the world (world-lite), etc. The kingdom of darkness and its human agents, took advantage of our (church) inward look and took over the education, media and entertainment (all used to be led by the church), so for 50 years, we raised kids who were ignorant of God's truth because we entertain them for 18 years in church, they go to college and come home after their first semester as humanist, anti-Bible absolute truth, LGBTQ, so they can be part of the in-crowd. Yet many of us keep sending our kids to these dens of (soul) thieves. I was talking to one of my aburos yesterday, and we both lamented how DISCIPLESHIP (not small group where we discussed someone's book or sermon) is lost in the body of Christ. This is what Jesus commanded we do. Discipleship is helping people know who they are and how who they are bring Glory to God, not about building a local assembly or a denomination - it is about God's Glory. Discipleship takes at least a year of purposeful and deliberate mentoring, which can then be replicated over and over again. I pray wisdom and revelation of God's Spirit for us all
