🤔 The devil is in the details with a higher weight from more riders, atmospheric conditions like clouds and cold, etc. But a good beginning on a good concept. I like the idea of potential for small wind turbines to charge batteries for power when it is cloudy or colder. However, batteries add weight that could hinder performance.

🚌 🔋 Fuel cell bus projects in the spotlight: fleets, manufacturers, trends. A total of 370 fuel cell buses were in operation in Europe as of 1 January 2023. But there are plans to get over 1,200 by 2025. 🔝 #Hydrogen on coaches: it’s time for #CoacHyfied! Developing of fuel cell coaches is the intent of the #CoacHyfied project, launched in March 2021. The EU-backed project is led by service provider FEV Group and aims to identify existing challenges and elaborate suitable solutions by developing and operating six fuel cell coaches in public and commercial transport, both local and long-distance. A consortium of 14 companies from the fields of development, technology and science is part of the project. The demonstration phase under real operating conditions of the buses started at the beginning of the year and will last up to three years. The total project duration is scheduled for five years.

#Kenya has released and launched a draft of its National E-mobility Policy that’s expected to encourage local production and assembly of electric vehicles (EVs). Once approved, the policy will establish sales targets and investment criteria for domestic car manufacturers and assemblers to qualify for government incentives, with a focus on zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). Furthermore, the e-mobility policy seeks to create and assess a legal and regulatory framework that supports the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). #EVs #Kenya #Africa #Ethiopia #sustainable #greenenergy

Amphibious electric buses used in South Africa on show at Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME) 🚌⚙️ The future of green transport technology has been on show at Coventry University’s Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering (AME). Thirteen businesses at the leading edge of efforts to reduce the transport sector’s reliance on fossil fuels were chosen to be part of the Clean Futures accelerator programme, which saw them receive up to £50,000 to trial their solutions and address challenging areas associated with the rail and automotive manufacturing sectors. Clean Futures is led by Connected Places Catapult alongside Coventry University and the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation. The firms chosen are being supported by Coventry University’s Research Centre for Manufacturing and Materials. The incredible ideas and prototypes that were on show at AME included a new way of charging electric motorbikes used by food service outlets and an amphibious tour bus that can go on the road and on water. Seahorse Amphibious Vehicles currently has one bus in Cape Town, South Africa, and another in Liverpool, with plans to deliver vehicles to Helsinki, Singapore and Glasgow. “One European out of three (29%)” would be interested in acquiring an #electricvehicle or #hybrid. 🚙⚡️ People considering the acquisition of electric vehicles are #younger, more often active, and #urban. If their motivations for considering EV are largely #environmental (39% mention #ecological reasons), the skyrocketing #cost of #petrol is also a motivating factor for the transition to electric (43% would do it to save money on fuel costs). EV considerers are more concerned about the environmental impact of their #mobilityhabits already: 69% of them feel bad about the ecological footprint linked to the usage of their car, vs 48% of the overall population. They also already have more in mind and consider more plausible the future regulations regarding EV: 64% consider that EU regulations imposing the sale of EV by 2035 are realistic and will be applied, vs 41% overall. The barriers to buying an electric vehicle are primarily driven by the purchase price (even more strongly this year, + 4 pts at the European level). At the same time, difficulties related to charging points are less significant (-3 points). Great survey Ipsos 👏

Researchers from The University of Queensland have outlined 5 key steps needed to speed up Australia’s transition to electric vehicles (EVs). The Federal Government recently passed the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) requiring car makers to reduce carbon emissions for new vehicles from January 2025. Dr Kai Li Lim, Dr Dia Adhikari Smith and Associate Professor Archie Chapman say the legislation was an important step toward sustainable transport, incentivising car manufacturers to export their most fuel-efficient vehicles to Australia. The researchers have outlined 5 further measures that would put Australia on the road to an EV future.
