Don't forget to debrief the past academic year before beginning a new one! Here are a few reflection questions to make it easier.
I empower colleges and universities committed to educating interculturally competent global citizens to consistently and sustainably fulfill that mission by building intercultural capacity among their faculty and staff.
Educators: It’s August—almost time for a new academic year to begin! If you haven’t yet taken time to reflect back on the past year and consider what lessons you learned and how to apply them moving forward, be sure to do so soon! If we don’t make space to look back, we risk missing out on important learning. After all, the learning is in the debrief! I put together some reflection questions that you can use yourself—or with your students or colleagues—to debrief the academic year: https://lnkd.in/gyPcke9a #educatordebrief #experientiallearning #highereducation

Do you have a teenager in year 12? The jump from year 11 to year 12 shouldn't be underestimated. Some students finding the transition smooth others may still be finding their feet. They could be concerned that they've picked the wrong subject/s. Struggling to manage their workload. Be lacking in motivation to do homework or study. Did you know there is very little specific support out there for year 12 students. Can you imagine your teenager Knowing how to use their natural learning preferences to study. Being able to set their own learning goals. Perfecting the sixth former learning mindset. Planning their own study timetable. This and much more is covered in the Successful Sixth Former Programme. The first programme designed just for year 12 students. It was launched this Autumn with a price of £575. In addition to the programme materials there are 3 121 coaching sessions which can be taken at any time in year 12. 📚 Revision Tips for Exam Success! 🌟 Plan: 🗓️ Planning is crucial! Create a study schedule that suits your routine. Set aside specific times for each subject or topic to stay organized and focused. Active: 💡 Stay engaged! Don't just read—summarize, explain to a friend, or create flashcards. Active learning boosts understanding and retention. Mix: 🔄 Vary your study methods! Switch between reading, watching videos, and solving problems. Different techniques help grasp concepts better. Visualize: 🎨 Visual aids are your friend! Use mind maps, diagrams, or color-coded notes. Visualizing information makes it easier to remember complex topics. Rest: ⏸️ Take breaks! Regular pauses help maintain concentration. Step away, stretch, or take a walk to recharge your brain. Wellness: 💪 Don't forget self-care! Get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise. A healthy body supports a healthy mind. Practice: 📝 Practice makes perfect! Work on past papers or sample questions. It familiarizes you with the exam format and highlights areas needing more focus. Review: 📚 Revise regularly! This skill vs. will dilemma starts early and often arises when students face challenges that require both motivation and academic skills to overcome. On one hand, students may have the will to succeed but lack the necessary skills, such as studying techniques or critical thinking abilities, to excel academically. On the other hand, students may possess the skills but lack the motivation or interest to apply themselves fully. Addressing this dilemma involves supporting students in developing both the will and the skill to succeed. This can be done through providing engaging and relevant learning experiences that help build students' skills while also fostering a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages their motivation and perseverance.

☀️While June marks the mid-point of the calendar year, for many of us in education it signals a break between one academic year and the next. As an experiential educator, I like to take some time at the end of the year to reflect on what I’ve done and, more importantly, what I’ve learned from my experiences. If we don’t make space to look back, we risk missing out on important learning. After all, the learning is in the debrief! In this month’s blog post, I offer some reflection questions (adapted for three different audiences) that you can use yourself—or with your students or colleagues—to debrief the academic year: https://lnkd.in/gyPcke9a #experientialeducation #debriefing #highereducation

In university education, excellence is multifaceted, encompassing experiential learning, learner-centric approaches, digital enrichment, entrepreneurial mindset, and research-informed teaching. Each theme is instrumental in equipping students with the market-demanded skills. One theme particularly resonates with me, as highlighted in the attached quote: the learner-centric approach. This is where we, as educators, transcend traditional teaching by forging meaningful relationships with our students. It's about nurturing a learning environment where connections and student engagement are as fundamental as the curriculum itself. Such bonds often become the catalyst for true learning and development.
