The Florida Panthers hoisted the #StanleyCup this week and delivered a championship performance on the ice while earning frequent-flyer status in the process. The distance between Edmonton, AB and Sunrise, FL is 2,541 miles, and each team crisscrossed the continent in what represented record-breaking travel over the course of 7 games. Many fans don’t realize the toll this frequent travel can place on a high-performance athlete. According to Jonathan Charest, Director of Athlete Sleep Services for the Centre for Sleep and Human Performance at the University of Calgary, “I don't think people appreciate what they are pulling off. From a research and scientific perspective, it's incredible." While most professional leagues are taking active steps to address the realities of frequent travel and its impact on player health & wellbeing, winning organizations take matters into their own hands, with dedicated performance staff + outside resources provided to athletes to assist them with off-the-ice sleep and recovery. Read more in the link provided and visit kineticsleep.co to learn how winning professional organizations are implementing travel-focused sleep resources to score big on and off the ice, field, pitch, or wherever the competition takes them. #kineticsleep #sleeptomove #frequenttravel #NHL https://lnkd.in/emAp2txv

Can leaders just have IT? IT, defined as that intangible quality when you meet someone and immediately want to be a part of their team, to be inspired by them, learn from them, and be led by them. There is, of course, a delicate balance in this. History has taught us that humanity has often followed seducers who have led their followers astray, metaphorically speaking. But returning to the present, where we then and again encounter leaders who possess IT. I spent 30 years of my life in a dressing room. While not many footballers have won Nobel Prizes, we had a remarkable ability to discern leaders who lacked IT. Coaches who attempted to conceal their weaknesses through excessive theory, anger, arrogance, or digital tools intended to impress the players. So, yes, I have encountered some who did NOT have IT! Then there was our National Coach Egil Olsen, "Drillo," who undeniably had it. Primarily due to his knowledge and ideas, but also his ability to instill in us the feeling of taking on the whole world. The reason I began writing this on Good Friday, however, was the news that Xabi Alonso has decided to remain at Bayer 04 Leverkusen Alonso is on the verge of securing the Bundesliga - title after FC Bayern München winning 11 in a row. And mark my words: Alonso unquestionably possesses IT. Both as a player and as a leader. He was a leader on the pitch for Liverpool Football Club, Bayern, Real Madrid C.F. and the Spanish National Team. Mind you, this is only his first full season in Germany, but he has yet to taste defeat, and his team exhibits a clear identity and unity. I have only encountered him in my capacity as an interviewer. I interviewed him both as a player and as a coach. And trust me, the BIG IT is there. As he demonstrated with his decision to remain in Leverkusen. He could have managed Bayern and Liverpool. But he chose to stay where he is. Conveying this message to his players this morning. Expressing it eloquently in a press conference today to take any pressure and attention away from the massive games coming up. A significant credit to Simon Rolfes the Managing Director Sports, and his team. Establishing a culture of growth as they strive to transform Leverkusen into a trophy-winning force. As a life long diehard Boston Celtics fan last night was a night I will never forget. I got to share it with my girls and see them witness their first Celtics championship. The lessons you can learn from this Celtics team are ones that apply to life and business. They focused on controlling what they can control. Blocked out all the outside noise. They had a goal and they battled all year to achieve it. They were doubted all year based on previous performances in the finals and eastern conference finals. Coach Mazzulla was second guessed all season. Many saying he wasn’t the right coach for this team. Tatum and Brown disrespected all season. Many questioning if they had what it takes to win a Championship together. Even after going 12-2 heading into the Finals most analyst picked Dallas to beat Boston. At the end of the day they trusted the coach. They trusted each other. They didn’t panic during adversity. They stuck together as a team/family and kept their focus on their ultimate goal of winning a championship. Many of us deal with adversity daily. Maybe feel doubted. Maybe frustrated with where you are at in your career. Questioning if you are going down the right path. Lessons you can take from this team can help you in life and your career. Trust yourself. Control what you can control. Work hard daily to achieve your goals no matter what obstacles are in your way. Block out the outside noise and just focus on controlling what you can to get one step closer to your goals. Stay the course. Or pivot if that is what needs to happen. But never lose confidence in your ability to be great! Congratulations to the Boston Celtics on winning their NBA leading 18th Championship.

Had the privilege of sitting in on one of Alan Stein, Jr.'s performance speeches a couple days ago at a conference. My favourite quote was "Do the best you can, with what you've got, wherever you are" The overarching theme was about what makes winning teams and how we can facilitate this as individuals. He noted how anytime we show up as less than our best self we are being selfish and effectively letting down our team (can be in sports, business, or even our relationships). The paradox here shows that being selfless can actually serve you better as it relates to winning as a team. A piece of actionable advice I found was through the use of an acronym we are all well aware of... "WTF" - yes, but it translates to "where to focus". He says we ought to focus on what we can control - and the two things are effort and attitude. If effort is a choice, then so is lack of effort. If choosing to be appreciative of obstacles is a choice, then so is choosing to be irritated or dissatisfied in the face of obstacles. The goal here is to be on the right side of those choices so many times that it would be highly improbable for you and your team to lose. Hope this helps heighten everyone's awareness in where to focus as it translates to your winning teams both at home and in the public space. Big thank you to, Alan Stein, Jr.. https://lnkd.in/gMsh4KNi

Team building Expert | LinkedIn Top Voice | Forbes featured | I help executives manage change, foster innovation, & boost their bottom line 🇨🇦 🇯🇲 Actress 🎬 Writer 📃 ✍🏽
🕳 Team Building Pitfalls: Canada vs USA 4 x 100 relay team performance underscores importance of consistent training and team building 🥇🏃🏾🏃🏾🏃🏾🏃🏾 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 The Paris Olympics are over but the results and the performance of various teams and athletes will be studied for years. A team is more than the sum of its parts. 🇨🇦 None of the members of Canada's gold medal winning 4 by 100 relay team qualified for the finals in their individual events. Yet, the relay team went on to glory. 🇺🇸 On paper, the U.S. team was expected to win. They had some of the best runners in the world. 🇯🇵 Team Japan wasn't even on the radar but they were ahead for much of the relay and they outperformed Team USA by finishing 5th. Here is what contributed to these results. ◾ Canada maintained consistent team membership. They kept the identical team for three consecutive Olympics and leveraged the experience of team members. ◾ Olympics Canada selected a winning coach. Their coach, Glenroy Gilbert, helped team members refine their performance based on his success as a member of Canada's 1996 gold medal winning 4 x 100 relay team. ◾ The Canadian team practiced handoffs, something with which the U.S. 4 x 100 relay team struggled. ◾ Team Japan benefitted from Kaizen (改善), analyzing results and continuously making incremental changes to improve performance. Japan's personnel and order changes after Thursday's heat paid off. ◾ Team USA fumbled the handoffs and they were was disqualified. Training and practice are essential to create winning teams. The same strategies produce winning teams in business. Yet, many corporate executives and business leaders fail to invest in training and team building. They leave results to chance. Winning, world class performance doesn't happen by accident...it's by design. 💼 If this is the formula for success, why do many corporate leaders fail to devote quality attention to team building and training? 📋 What other factors contributed to Canada's when and team USA's disqualification. #teambuilding #Olympics2024 #executivesandmanagement #leadership #linkedintopvoices Donovan Bailey who anchored Canada's 1996 gold medal winning 4 x 100 relay team breaks down Team Canada's performance. https://lnkd.in/e2-E2CgX

“𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒂 𝒕𝒆𝒂𝒎 𝒆𝒇𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕.” - Nadeen Matthews Blair Time to get your success team together. This past few days, both the US and Jamaica held their Olympic trials, and if you’re a Jamaican, you were likely glued to the exciting track and field events. Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, in qualifying for her 5th Olympics at 37 years old, thanked her team. Her graciousness is not a surprise to anyone. Her success is a testament to the power of collaboration. A sprinter’s team includes a coach, nutritionist, agent, doctors, masseuse, supportive partner, and many others. No one succeeds alone. Corporations desire collaboration, but this isn't usually incentivized. During my IWF leadership training, I learned about the concept of a personal board of advisors, a group of individuals who form your “success” team. You can seek guidance, bounce ideas off them, etc. My board is informal but invaluable, and I consult with them before making significant moves. Their perspectives are always enriching, even when we disagree. I will tag a few on my Board of Advisors and “success team”. Feel free to do the same. Mariame McIntosh Robinson Sadé Powell Recognize that individual success is really a team effort. Begin to collaborate, seek advice, and shift your focus from winning solo to achieving together. You will be rewarded. Here’s to a week of embracing collaboration and achieving greater success. Tag your success team or put one together quickly! Have a great week. #MondayMotivation #TeamEffort #SuccessTeam
Jamaica Gleaner on Instagram: "Two-time Olympic 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce soaked up the love on Friday night as attendees at the 2024 JAAA/PUMA National Senior and Junior Championships savoured what was likely her last race on the National Stadium track. Fraser-Pryce has booked her place to Paris Olympics, which will be her last before retirement. 📸@taylor2nd #GLNRSports #ParisExpress
