The EIT HEI DETECT! project educated again! In the 3D Technology Centre at the Technical Faculty of SPU in Nitra, under the guidance of Ing. Juraj Balazi, PhD. held on 13 May 2024 a workshop entitled "Basics of 3D printing". During the event, the participants got acquainted with different types of 3D printing, found out what the differences are between the different technologies, especially in price but also their advantages and disadvantages. Furthermore, they were familiarized with the parameters most affecting the resulting quality, the most common problems and ways to minimize/eliminate them. Thanks to the interactive approach and practical demonstrations, the participants had the opportunity to try 3D printing. A discussion area was also created where interested participants could consult with an experienced expert.

When it comes to sustainability, there is lots of misinformation about current production. Many customers believe for example that PLA is bioplastic, so it must be compostable. Well, it is based on bio substances so it doesn’t use petroleum as main ingrediency but to decompose? 80 years. And for the rest of the biodegradable plastics, there is often some catch. The oPET is a material that has been already produced. It comes from the pollution of the seas. The bigger the production will be, the cleaner path it will leave. There is a long chain that ends with our filament. As any material it has its strengths and weaknesses, but around 20 meters high printed Eiffel tower is hell of a manifestation what it can do.

Team Unlimbited This quick video gives a brief overview of Team Unlimbited and what they have accomplished with modern technology and the desire to help. This highlights what once would be an expensive process for a custom prosthetic is now less that $30 and customized for each child. While most businesses are not able to do what they are doing, using technology to provide value is critical. For example, in my own pursuits, I am using 3D printing technology to prototype a part for safer doors in behavioral health areas. This has increased the speed parts can be made as well as eliminating a significant amount of waste. This improved efficiency makes a cheaper and more available part. https://lnkd.in/e_e8t5xQ
