HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG’s Post

Converting food waste to clean energy⚡️ Our efforts to conserve resources are also demonstrated by our waste management system. We at HHLA reduce refuse and separate rubbish for recycling wherever possible so that reusable waste can be fed back into the resource cycle. Fruit waste accounts for the largest percentage of waste at our terminals. It includes fruit – such as bananas or pineapple – that is no longer suitable for consumption or processing 🍍 These imports are already unfit for sale when they arrive in Hamburg and have to be disposed of. Most of this waste is used by an external biogas plant in order to generate electricity. Last year, 491,269 kWh of electricity were produced without CO2 in this way. #HHLA #sustainability #recycling
