Check out my new 'series' Social Purpose IRL' - starting with one we all know about, Patagonia! Follow me for more ... ⭐ Patagonia: Environmental Sustainability 🌎 Social Purpose: To save our home planet. Problem Addressed: Environmental degradation and climate change. Solution: Patagonia, an outdoor clothing and gear company, is dedicated to environmental sustainability. The company uses recycled materials in its products, advocates for environmental causes, and donates 1% of its sales to environmental nonprofits through its "1% for the Planet" program. In 2022, Patagonia Founder and owner, Yvon Chouinard, transferred ownership to the Holdfast Collective (a not-for-profit that fights the environmental crisis, protects nature and biodiversity, and supports thriving communities) and Patagonia Purpose Trust (that holds 100% voting rights) – making “the Earth our only shareholder.” In the announcement, Chouinard wrote: “Instead of “going public,” you could say we’re “going purpose.” Instead of extracting value from nature and transforming it into wealth for investors, we’ll use the wealth Patagonia creates to protect the source of all wealth.” Social Purpose Impact examples: · Reduction of Waste: By using recycled materials, Patagonia helps reduce waste and the consumption of new resources. · Environmental Advocacy: The company supports grassroots environmental groups, promoting conservation and sustainability initiatives globally. · Consumer Awareness: Patagonia's campaigns and practices raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage consumers to make more sustainable choices. #socialpurpose #meaningfulimpact #peopleandplanet ___________ If you would like to explore becoming a Social Purpose Business – IRL – message me, I'd love to chat!

The Shitthropocene: A Wake-Up Call for Business and Society Patagonia ‘s new film is a powerful exploration of our current age, dominated by overconsumption and unsustainable practices. This thought-provoking film highlights the dire consequences of our obsession with endless growth and the urgent need to shift towards more nature-centric business models. In #TheShitthropocene, Patagonia exposes the environmental and social impacts of our throwaway culture, driven by cheap, disposable products and relentless consumption. The film calls attention to the devastating effects this has on our planet, from depleted natural resources to polluted oceans and degraded ecosystems. As businesses and consumers, it's imperative that we rethink our relationship with growth and consumption. Our current model, focused on maximizing profits at the expense of the environment, is not sustainable. Instead, we must adopt nature-centric business models that prioritize ecological balance, resource efficiency, and social responsibility. Here are some key takeaways from the film and why we need to act now: 1. Resource Depletion: Our planet's resources are finite. Continued exploitation without regard for regeneration is leading us towards ecological collapse. 2. Pollution: The production of cheap, disposable goods results in massive amounts of waste and pollution, harming wildlife and human health. 3. Social Impact: Unsustainable business practices often rely on exploitative labor conditions, perpetuating inequality and social injustice. The time for change is now. By embracing sustainable practices, circular economies, and ethical production methods, businesses can lead the way towards a healthier planet. Consumers can drive this shift by supporting companies that prioritize sustainability and responsibility over short-term gains. Together, we can create a future where business success aligns with the well-being of our planet and its inhabitants. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #Patagonia #TheShitthropocene #NatureCentric See the first 15 minutes here:

🌍👓 This Earth Day, we're proud to celebrate our commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious practices. At Vision Direct, we believe in making a difference. That's why we run initiatives to give back to the global community and help preserve our natural environment. And it's why we're dedicated to offering you sustainable choices for your eyewear needs. One of our favourite initiatives is our collaboration with WWF-Australia to support wildlife conservation efforts. Twice a year, 50% of proceeds from the sale of our Arise ReefCycle frames (eyewear recycled from the fishing nets caught in the Great Barrier Reef), go directly towards WWF's conservation work, such as advocacy for the Net-Free Reef project, which aims to create a thriving Reef free from commercial gill nets. Caring for people and the planet is one of our core values, and we believe in the power of making sustainable choices accessible to everyone — and fashionable. This Earth Day (and every day), let’s celebrate by choosing eyewear that looks good and does good for our planet.🌿 #EarthDay #SustainableFashion #sustainablechoices

The problem with simple slogans for complex problems. A new EU directive slams brands advertising planting trees to offset emissions. We plant 5 trees for every purchase! Sounds and feels good right? What if regenerating grasslands and mangroves is a better option. What if some planting tree schemes reduce biodiversity. What if natural forest regrowth is a better policy. What if companies only plant trees and do nothing else to reduce impact. But also what if "We plant 5 trees for every purchase" is an effective slogan that simply helps to highlight the multitude of other positive impacts by a company. Maintain the Mangroves. Grow the Grasses. Generate to Regenerate. Doesn’t quite have the same impact. How do you best describe complex problems, without using simple slogans? I don’t know. Please help. #cycling #greenwashing #sustainability #responsiblebusiness

Patagonia's bold achievement: Less impact, more revenue. And it's working! The company has been valued at $3 billion while reducing its climate footprint. How? They're working toward 100% renewable energy, have increased their use of preferred materials like regenerative organic cotton by 88%, and are working towards three big climate milestones. Building a billion-dollar empire while "saving our home planet" doesn't have to be a pipe dream. And it all started with a small shop in his parent's backyard and a desire to make a difference. We need more stories like this. Agreed? #purposedrivenbusiness #sustainability #responsiblebusiness
