We're in business to save our home planet.

About us

Founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973, Patagonia is an outdoor apparel company based in Ventura, California. A certified B-Corporation, Patagonia’s mission is to save our home planet. The company is recognized internationally for its commitment to authentic product quality and environmental activism, donating 1% of sales annually, contributing over $100 million in grants and in-kind donations since 1985. We’re always looking for motivated people to join us in our retail stores; at our Ventura, California headquarters; Reno, Nevada Service Center; and occasionally in our overseas offices. We’re especially interested if you love spending as much time as possible in the mountains or the wild, feel more at home in a base camp or on the river than an office, and have a passion for something outside of yourself, whether for surfing or opera, climbing or gardening, skiing or community activism. At Patagonia, more than 95 percent of our emissions come from our supply chain. The same goes for many companies. Without a standardized way to account for the investments we’re making in reducing our supply chain emissions, it would be impossible to quantify or reach our climate goals.     We urge all companies to take a hard look into their supply chains to understand the true climate costs of doing business. It’s imperative we work together to scale investment in supply chain climate action to lower our planetary impact and protect our communities from the worst effects of the climate crisis.     Tools like the Verra Scope 3 Standard Program can provide much-needed clarity and enable direct action within your supply chain. We’ve worked with Verra for years to develop their program for scaling supply chain climate action. If you or your business are looking to cut scope 3 emissions, they’d love to hear from you, too.

📢 Verra has launched the first public consultation on preliminary program documents for its incipient Scope 3 Standard (S3S) Program! The purpose of this consultation is to gather feedback on the clarity, comprehensiveness, and feasibility of essential program rules, concepts, and associated guidance. 📆 The consultation runs from March 6 through April 21, 2025.    💡The S3S Program builds on Verra’s flagship Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program and aims to deliver an innovative suite of harmonized requirements and guidance, filling a current critical market gap for a consistent approach to addressing Scope 3 emissions.  As a result, Verra’s new S3S Program is well-positioned to drive investment and scale up in-value-chain climate action.  The program will include the following elements:  ✅ Auditable and robust rules and requirements to enable assurance of credible Scope 3 intervention outcomes  ✅ Standardized, science-based, and peer-reviewed quantification methodologies that are publicly available   ✅ A transparent Scope 3 Registry to aid transparency, drive co-investment, and bring integrity and clarity through unit issuance   ✅ Third-party verification of Scope 3 intervention data, methods, and outcomes  ✅ Certification of Scope 3 interventions and their greenhouse gas outcomes, built on Verra’s robust third-party auditing and verification systems Read the full announcement and provide feedback on the draft documents: https://bit.ly/41uxY4t #Verra #Scope3 #CarbonMarkets #ClimateAction #StandardsMatter

Back when they were invented in the 1950s, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS for short, were a game changer for outdoor gear. These strong, water-repellent, oil-repellent, heat-stable synthetic compounds enable people to get out in extreme conditions, all while staying dry, warm and comfortable. “Now we’re like, ‘Cool, we want to do the same thing but with no PFAS,’” says Patagonia senior material innovation engineer Laura Hoch. “That’s a pretty hard technical challenge.” The problem with PFAS lies mainly in the upstream manufacturing phase, when these “forever chemicals” can pollute water and soil. Now, for Spring 2025 and beyond, all our new products are made without intentionally added PFAS. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/gwmh5pxZ

The Trump administration is making plans to illegally reduce and sell off large swaths of our public lands to oil, gas and mining interests. This would bring irreparable harm to the Indigenous stewards of these lands, the outdoor industry and critical ecosystems we all depend on. For more than a decade, we have been working with our suppliers to eliminate fees for migrant workers in Taiwan. Despite our efforts, this exploitative practice remains difficult to eradicate completely. A new report (https://lnkd.in/gzSzmZnw) from Transparentem highlights the progress and ongoing challenges that we, and other apparel and footwear companies, face. Their research has made it clear that collective action is necessary and has mobilized the industry in the right direction. We remain committed to ending these practices. However, we cannot do this alone. We urge more brands to join us in advocating for systemic change and working with governments to make it illegal for workers to be charged fees for securing employment. See here (https://lnkd.in/gPcEU-vi) to learn more about migrant worker issues and our work.

What will it take to make progress on the environmental crisis now? Ask the lawyers who took the first Trump administration to court on behalf of our lands, waters and communities.   “We can't just be on defense waiting for a better day to come,” says Earthjustice president Abbie Dillen. “Everything needs to have an offensive dimension.”   Read on to learn more about how our longtime legal advocacy partners are getting more strategic and assertive. https://lnkd.in/g27d3pKu

As the U.S. pulls out of the Paris Climate Agreement, fossil fuel companies are raking in record profits. Our CEO, Ryan Gellert, pulls the curtain back on the so-called “energy emergency” and examines what would actually happen if we faced a dire shortage, and why the declaration distracts from the true threat to our planet—the climate crisis.    The climate crisis requires long-term, systemic change, with businesses, government and civil society working together. We are committed to reducing our impact and we encourage other companies to join us in cleaning up the mess we've all created on this planet. We must stop delaying and start acting “because despite what you might have heard, not all of us want to move to Mars.” Read on to see Ryan's full message. https://lnkd.in/ger4ymGw

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of our dedicated employees who generously volunteered their time on Martin Luther King Jr. Day to sort and organize clothing donations for those affected by the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. A special thanks goes to our Pasadena and Santa Monica stores for their unwavering commitment to supporting the local community during this difficult time. Additionally, we appreciate all our stores across the country that have stepped up to provide aid and assistance, showcasing our collective spirit of compassion and solidarity in times of need.

Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision for a better world. Dr. King believed in action and equality, and that change is possible when we support each other. That’s what we’re working toward when we show up to protect the people and places we love. Whether it’s volunteering to protect our wild spaces or supporting your local community, there are many ways to be part of something greater. Our thoughts are with those affected by the unprecedented wildfires in Los Angeles. We grieve for the lives lost, those now without homes and the damage to the wildlife and ecology of our local mountains and coastline. We thank the first responders, those from all over California and the West as well as from Canada and Mexico, and all the public servants and volunteers working around the clock to help those in need. Like so many in the LA region, colleagues in our Santa Monica and Pasadena stores are dealing with displaced loved ones, intense air pollution and uncertainty. For now, we’re providing direct support to our staff and friends, and we’ve ramped up funding to our longtime disaster relief partner Americares. If you can, we encourage you to donate to Americares at pat.ag/l/25/americares. We’ve also made it easy for online customers going forward to get a donation match to Americares, thanks to our payment partner Adyen. These donations speed up disaster relief and expand access to critical medical supplies. Photo: Jay L. Clendenin
