Is Year-Round Schooling an Effective Measure Against Summer Learning Loss? According to the California Department of Education (2023), year-round education may positively affect student achievement, especially for disadvantaged students. Shorter, more frequent breaks minimize the loss of information retention during the summer months. Also, there are more enrichment opportunities for students during the breaks. In this week's video, we'll discuss the benefits of Year-Round Schooling and whether it is an effective measure against summer learning loss. #EducationalLeader, Kim “When students are led well, they learn well.” The views shared in the Educational Leadership Moment are solely mine and do not reflect the positions of my employer or any entity within the local, state, or federal government sectors. #Leadership #Education

Should higher ed be everything to everyone? I’m noticing a trend right now in that direction: - community colleges offering 4-year degrees - liberal arts schools offering hard science specializations - public university systems offering PhD programs. There is nothing wrong with adapting and evolving. It’s critical if schools hope to remain relevant. Society is changing; higher ed should, too. But those changes should be guided by fulfilling your school’s unique mission. Who are you here to serve? You can try to be everything to everyone. But in my experience, schools succeed when they are true to themselves. #highereducation #highereducationleadership

Summer Reading Programs Combat Learning Loss Summer break is traditionally a period for students to unwind from the structured school environment. Yet, this recess can also usher in the “summer slide,” a period where students, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, tend to lose crucial academic skills. This decay is notably severe in fundamental areas such as mathematics and reading. In today's video, we'll discuss one of the most potent defenses against the summer slide: summer reading programs! #EducationalLeader, Kim “When students are led well, they learn well.” The views shared in the Educational Leadership Moment are solely mine and do not reflect the positions of my employer or any entity within the local, state, or federal government sectors. #Education #Leadership

I help Higher Ed retain more staff and enroll more students | Vice President, TCS | Workshop Leader and Enrollment Communication Expert | Keynote Speaker | Newsletter Editor/Publisher | Host of Mission Admissions Podcast
Two of the many thoughts 💭 that resonated with the team at University of Northern Colorado today. Prospective students will tell you what they don’t like and what their concerns are about college, your school, etc if you ask better questions. Answering a student’s question is great, but improving your level of responsiveness by being more curious and asking follow up questions will help you be more memorable. #highered #higheredmarketing #higheredleadership #emchat

"Education is the cornerstone of progress and the foundation upon which societies thrive. As an educational leader, I am guided by the belief that every student has the potential to excel and make a meaningful contribution to the world. Muah Hoges once said, 'Education is the key to unlocking the potential within each individual.' This quote resonates deeply with me because it encapsulates the transformative power of education." "Effective educational leadership is about fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. It's about creating an inclusive and supportive environment where students are encouraged to explore, question, and discover. By cultivating a growth mindset and providing personalized learning experiences, we empower students to become lifelong learners and critical thinkers. As Muah Hoges aptly stated, 'Education is not a one-size-fits-all approach; it is about meeting the unique needs of every learner.'" "Moreover, educational leadership extends beyond the walls of the classroom. It involves forging strong partnerships with parents, communities, and stakeholders to create a cohesive support system for students. By fostering collaboration and communication, we can harness the collective wisdom and resources to ensure every student has access to high-quality education. In the words of Muah Hoges, 'Education is a shared responsibility; it takes a village to raise a child.' As educational leaders, it is our duty to inspire, empower, and uplift the next generation."

Proud to share how the University of South Florida implemented the RISE Model to elevate feedback within their Career Readiness badging program! 🎓 By integrating the framework with peer coaching, they empowered over 3,000 students to build essential career skills through meaningful, structured feedback. Check out the full story below! ⬇️ #RISEModel #CareerReadiness #FeedbackMatters #HigherEdInnovation #StudentSuccess
Exciting success story from the University of South Florida (USF)! When their Career Readiness department sought to scale a new badging program, they adapted the RISE Model for Meaningful Feedback into the (A)RISE framework, adding an initial "Align" step. This allowed peer coaches to provide structured, quality feedback to over 3,000 students across three campuses, helping them articulate career competencies like leadership, communication, and critical thinking. Even with limited resources, USF's use of (A)RISE fostered student growth and workforce preparedness. Proud to see how the RISE Model continues to empower students and educators worldwide.
