THE REAL BENEFITS OF WAKEFIELD PORK Every job lists the same benefits - paid vacation, health, dental, vision, 401k, competitive wage. I would guess if you are like me, these aren't the 'real' benefits that you are looking for in a job. My 10 favorite benefits of being a Wakefield Pork employee read more like this: 1. Freedom to be you 2. Resources to help you get where you want to be professionally 3. Real team environments focused on productivity (and fun) 4. Time to... (fill in the blank) _________ (Hunt, hike, ski, fish, knit, etc) 5. A sense of being part of something special 6. Appreciation for what you do 7. Support for whatever life brings your way 8. Opportunity to thrive 9. Peace of mind knowing the job is always there 10. Having a voice Your list may look a little different but at Wakefield we try our hardest to focus on our teammates and understand that everyone's personal situation is unique. No company is perfect and that's why we are always looking to improve. We have a few openings that we are looking to fill and we are looking for the right fit. It doesn't matter if you have 20 years of experience or have never touched a pig in your life, we probably have something for you and you may have something for us. It's kind of like the Nebraska ad, "it's not for everyone", but it may be for you!! Please share, repost, like, comment, message me directly, whatever we would love to hear from you. wakefieldpork.com

Furlough Day 22: Have Fun Many of us will spend half our life working. One way to continue to enjoy the work that we do is to have fun doing it. Joking with coworkers and customers can bring levity, and often a well-needed, switch up. For fun, I was thinking about the job title that I can use to describe my responsibilities during furlough on a resume. I would love input on a title for all of you based upon the following descriptions: -Planned and prioritized facility and grounds maintenance including coordinating vendors and resources -Transformed domicile into a safer space by eliminating rodent infestation from facility -Managed fleet of 2 vehicles including maintenance and safe operation -Managed finances and credit, including accounts receivable and payable -Directed audio and visuals entertainment in response to request of patrons for maximum enjoyment. -Planned entertainment and coordinated transportion to and from venues -Coordinated meetings with healthcare providers for both human and non-humans including transportation and prescription management So... Chief Operating Officer? General Manager? Please share some other titles that I should use.

I can't get this story out of my head... I was at this webinar. It was called "Tapping Into #WorkerVoice to improve #JobQuality: Lessons from the Talent Pipeline Management Network" Laurie Mays of the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Foundation shared about a #TPM engagement with local and global equine breeding and training organizations (because Kentucky is a hub for horses). I've been in the thick of employer advisory groups, but what I thought was really neat is that for this engagement, the chamber put together an #employee advisory group, to address retention challenges within specific occupations. One group of employees were veteranarian residents. These employees - mostly women - would relocate to Kentucky to complete a residency at the horse hospital. The facility was having a really, really hard time retaining them. Not only would these employees drop out of the program, but out of their entire occupation. They would leave their veteranarian careers, full-stop. Why? They were lonely. Young professionals who love animals move to a place where they know no one, and come home to an empty house. Most didn't have pets, because they'd be gone for such long working hours, and couldn't provide proper care. And so -- loneliness was the challenge. What did employers do to address this challenge? They build pet care facilities. Now, employees have pets, and bring them to work, and see them on their breaks, and take them home. And the problem of loneliness was solved. And veteranary residents stopped leaving the program. And the staffing and retention problem for employers was mitigated. And people who love animals kept their careers - and their pets. Never in their best, most empathetic strategic problem solving sessions would employers have ever come up with this solution to an employee retention problem. That's the power of #employeevoice And the power of employers asking the question, "what if?" Thanks Laurie Mays for sharing this powerful story, and to the The Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program for hosting this webinar!
