Yesterday we were able to talk to Princeton University students about the importance of reimagining public safety. At this crucial moment in our history, it's time to reimagine public safety by investing in community-based public safety, mental health, and resources. We need a paradigm shift that prioritizes prevention, intervention, and support over punitive measures. By redirecting funding towards community programs and services, we can address the root causes of crime and promote the wellbeing of all members of society. https://lnkd.in/guqEXxe4 Eventually I am going to get through this 80 page strategic plan from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). There is good stuff in here and their five priority areas are well oriented with what we need to focus on in behavioral health. -Preventing Substance Use and Overdose -Enhancing Access to Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Services -Promoting Resilience and Emotional Health for Children, Youth and Families -Integrating Behavioral and Physical Health Care -Strengthening the Behavioral Health Workforce The good news here is that Community Mental Health Centers in Kansas are working on initiatives in across these five areas as well -ping me for details or you can wait until I write about it down the road. Plus, these priorities all tie into the ongoing transition towards becoming Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics..not just for Kansas, but nationwide. What you'll notice is that none of these priorities can be solved for in a vacuum. They all take work and partnerships.

CCBHCs are a promising new approach to providing behavioral health care. The model is based on systems theory and is designed to improve the functioning of the community system by improving the coordination of care, increasing access to services, and improving the quality of care. #communityhealth #accesstocare #evidencebasedpractice ##integratedcare

To achieve their bold vision of parity in resources, access, quality, and outcomes and ensure: 90% of individuals are screened for mental health and substance use disorders. 90% receive the evidence-based services and supports they need, and 90% of those treated can manage their symptoms and achieve recovery. The paper, “CCBHCs: A Vision for the Future of Community Behavioral Health Care,” outlines a national vision for excellence in community mental health and substance use care and best practices being used by #CCBHCs that demonstrate the value and innovations of the model.
