Children’s Grief Awareness Day 2024 (November 21st) is 3 months away!! It’s never too early to start planning how you will support grieving children on that day. Make this the year you/your organization – • EDUCATE the community about children who are grieving • EQUIP peers and adults to be companions for grieving children • HONOR these children and their loved ones who have died

Handling the grief of anyone can be difficult and sensitive, but when it comes to supporting a child who is grieving, adults must be aware of the precedents they are setting around grief and loss. The way grief is handled in childhood can have a significant impact on how the child may grieve later in life. On Children’s Grief Awareness Day, we spread the word and encourage increased support for grieving children.

We know that grief affects everyone differently, and there is no right or wrong way to feel when you have lost someone. This #ChildrensGriefAwarenessWeek, we revisit our #growingupgrieving report, and the work that we did to raise awareness for children who have experienced a bereavement. ❓Question: How do you heal from grief? 💬 Answer: You don’t. And that’s okay. We live in a culture that pathologizes grief, expecting people to “move on” from loss and neatly package up their complex emotions. But that’s not how it works! Join us on Wednesday at 12 pm ET for an Instagram Live chat with Sarah Hines. Through her work at Grief Advocacy, Sarah helps individuals and groups cultivate healthier relationships with grief. She’ll tell us about her work, and what needs to happen to break the stigma surrounding bereavement. Make sure to join us on Instagram at @viiveplanning! Hope to see you there! #AgingandEndofLifePlanning #LegacyPlanning #AgingPlanning #EndofLifePlanning #EstatePlanning #FinancialPlanning

It's National Grief Awareness Week this week, a time to stand together and support one another through grief. 💙 Grief is a natural response to loss, and during this week, we're fostering understanding, breaking the stigma, and offering a safe space for open conversations and support. At 1st Line Future Planning, we believe in compassion and support. This week, we're shining a light on organizations like Grief Encounters, dedicated to helping bereaved children, young people, and families find hope and healing. Let's spread empathy, share stories, and remember that in our collective support, there's strength. 💪💙 #GriefAwareness #SupportInLoss #NationalGriefAwarenessWeek

The holidays might look a little different this year, especially for families that lost a loved one. Hospice Foundation of America recommends following the Three C's for Holiday Grief. These recommendations may help grieving children and their families this holiday season. 1️⃣ It's okay to choose the activities you want to participate in and say no to others 2️⃣Talk about your choices with your family. Be open and honest about how you are feeling. 3️⃣Everyone deals with loss in different ways. We need to find space to compromise. An iReach survey Irish Hospice Foundation commissioned in Decemeber 2023 gives an insight into Irish attitudes to death and grieving. The research (1,000 people) reveals that: 👉 1 in 2 people in Ireland struggle to know what to say to someone who's grieving. 👉 Only 3 in 10 of us feel that there are enough supports for those who are bereaved. 👉 3 in 4 of us believe family and friends are really important during the grieving process. National Grief Awareness Week aims to raise awareness of grief and the supports available, and provide an opportunity to discuss this typically uncomfortable subject. Taking place from 2-8 December, National Grief Awareness Week 2023 centres on the theme of #BetterTogether and aspires to connect communities through shared activities, fostering supportive conversations, compassion and understanding. Losing a loved one is not only incredibly painful, it can be very isolating. Today is the last day of National Grief Awareness Week, which this year focuses on bringing people together and raising awareness of the support available to bereaved people. As part of this, we wanted to share our bereavement guide, which aims to help at an incredibly difficult time, by providing practical steps to take when someone has died, as well as signposting to additional support resources. https://lnkd.in/e4Rpt4Va #griefawareness #bettertogether #hereforyou
