Christmas Eve in the 1990s. Peter Jankowski, a plumber, had on-call duty when he received a call from a farm in Baden, Switzerland. On this very day, the pump of the septic tank in the yard failed. Who wants to improvise over Christmas in terms of need and hygiene? A repair was urgently required. As an experienced plumber, Peter Jankowski knew: In 90% of the cases, not the pump itself, but the float switch is defective. Therefore, he had already stocked up on new switches and carried them with him in his truck. Arriving at the farm, Jankowski asked the family not to use toilets for the next half hour and swung himself – a giant of a man – into the septic tank. Apparently, not all family members had heard his appeal. As soon as he stood in the narrow tube, he was hit by a torrent of black water. That was too much for the dedicated craftsman – and at the same time the key moment for a new life’s work: He vowed to develop a float switch that would never fail. He already had the idea in the drawer and when Peter Jankowski reached retirement age, he started to get to work on this idea. So, it came to be that an installer with 40 years of professional experience used his retirement to rise with his company Niva GmbH to market leader in level controls. The product convinced customers on a national and international level. The innovative idea consisted of a double capsule of the float switch and a steel ball that actuates a microswitch at a certain angle of inclination. In addition, the teardrop shape developed by Jankowski prevented solids such as toilet paper from settling and holding down the switch. At the age of 70, Peter Jankowski finally wanted to retire. He was already working closely with NOLTA at the time and offered the business partner to take over Niva GmbH, as they already had an excellent, complementing portfolio in the field of pump technology. An offer that NOLTA gladly accepted. In 2008, Niva merged with NOLTA to form a joint operation. #throwbackthursday #innovation #industrialautomation

Building Resiliency | Promoting Workplace Culture in your organization. Mental Health Expert. Keynote Speaker. Trainer. Virtual Presenter
Listen to today's podcast... Did you know that going through the drive thru naked is illegal? In 2012, a naturist was found guilty of “partial nudity that offended public order” for incidents that occurred in 2008 and 2009 as he went through a drive thru. Today is National Drive Thru Day and while it is not recommended to go through the drive thru naked, we know that many of us will go through at least one drive thru today. Eating out is no longer a special event, but a practical alternative to eating at home when no one feels like shopping or cooking. Decisions about ‘what’s for dinner?’ reflect a solution to an equation that involves three variables: 1) what’s on hand in the fridge, cupboard or freezer, 2) the time available to cook and eat and 3) the urgency of hunger. Take One Action Today To Build Your #Resiliency! Here are today’s Tips For Building Resiliency and Celebrating National Drive Thru Day: Drive thru foods are not all bad. It is possible to make some wise choices, but it can be difficult if you don’t consider the options before you are about to order. Examine your life and do a rhythm check. Are you pushing and rushing most of the time? If so, consider altering your drive thru behaviour slightly to allow yourself the opportunity to slow down, take your time eating, socialize and enjoy the ‘whole’ meal experience. If you like today’s wellness tips, let me know. You can leave me a review on amazon or through your #alexa app. Looking for more tips to build your resiliency? My friend Jaimee Morgenbesser from Australia shared the following commentary and post. It’s another indication that recovery and regeneration needs to be led my community! RFS has thrown a lot of resources to manage this one - we are very grateful.” Zena’s experience is a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of disasters and the profound cascading impact they have on our lives. But it also underscores the incredible resilience of communities and the importance of preparation, community-led action, and listening to those who have lived through such events. A heartfelt acknowledgement to the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS). Their steadfast commitment, ceaseless endeavors, and deep-rooted concern and care for the communities they serve shine brightly in challenging times. Amidst the turmoil of disasters, they dedicate themselves to safeguarding both lives and homes. I only hope RFS members are able to be offered, receive and accept the care and support they need after their own experiences. Disasters, whether they be fires, floods, or other calamities, test our mettle, but they can also bring out the best in us. The strength of community bonds, the spirit of solidarity, and the will to recover are what define us in the face of adversity. But let’s be realistic, it’s okay and important to acknowledge when we’re overwhelmed, and it’s courageous to say when we need help. By doing so, we pave the way for genuine connections, support, and community strength. As we reflect on Zena’s experience and the countless others who face similar challenges, let’s remember the importance of community-led action. It’s crucial that we listen to and learn from those who have lived experience of disasters. Their insights, experiences, and feedback (good, bad and ugly) are invaluable in shaping policies, strategies, and actions that truly resonate with the needs of the community. To those who have faced or are facing the wrath of nature, know that your stories and experiences are important and valuable to us all. And to everyone else, let’s ensure we champion community-led initiatives, support those in need, and always prioritise the voices of those affected. #CalamityJaimChronicles #DisasterRecovery #CommunityLed #CommunityResilience #ListenAndLearn
Coolagolite, just outside Cobargo, tonight. My house is in there. Hopefully, with all the prepping we've done, it's resilient enough to see out the night.

🔋𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁 #3 - 𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻?🍺 This week I was invited to a workshop by our partner PITERION Group. After the workshop, we went to the Oktoberfest (hence my outfit) and I realized there's an analogy between the classic Bavarian drink and batteries. 🍺Have you ever been to the Oktoberfest? If so, you now understand the concept of residual capacity of an aged battery. You have a 1 liter glass, but it is only ~80% filled with liquid. The rest is foam. Your waiter tells you it's full. But you can't use the full capacity of your glass. 🔋The same goes for an old battery. Your battery management system will tell you it is 100% charged, but in reality it can only use 80% of its original capacity. 🗣️In both cases, there's a heated debate about what "full" really means. Thanks to the Piterion Team for having me!🤝 P.S. Never drink battery juice ☠️ #Oktoberfest #Battery
