Stay Safe: Avoid Tailgating! Tailgating is one of the leading causes of accidents, especially for larger vehicles like tractor-trailers. If you're driving below 40 mph, make sure to leave at least one second for every 10 feet of vehicle length. For a typical tractor-trailer, that means about 4 seconds of distance. If you're traveling over 40 mph, add one more second to ensure you have enough time to react safely. Giving yourself enough space can prevent collisions and keep everyone on the road safe.
