🧠 If I could change *one thing* about this amazing spotlight from Wednesday Women, it would be that no matter where you are in your career - when you are negotiating your salary - do your best to get out of your own head and relationship with money. 💰 Money was not discussed at home growing up. It was a closed subject at work. One company went so far as to say we could be fired for talking about compensation with one another. (Hindsight: huge red flag). 💜 But I needed help when I found out years ago my male peer was making significantly more than me. So I called my Mom, she listened for a few minutes, and then said I needed to simply ask for a raise. I stammered that wasn't possible with excuses like "What would they think of me doing that?" And she said, "If you hear a NO, then you know." And move on. 📚 I've shared that story over the years and in conversations about negotiation. Yes, it is hard to talk about money. Yes, it still makes me sweaty (I am even writing this out!). And yes, it can 100% get you what you ask for. 💲 Please don't be the one to stop yourself. As women, we need to talk about money more openly. And the more we do, the more we know. The more we know, the more we can help. The more we help, the better all generations of women are.

Great points. Thank you for sharing!
What a great spotlight on some BIG topics 👏🏻 You are truly one of a kind, Hilary!
THIS. And it is the same for so many things - negotiating severance, title changes when given additional responsibilities, etc.
Great post Hilary Headlee! I always say, you get what you ask for and you won’t get if you don’t ask. Know your worth and position that as you ask for a raise or are negotiating an offer.
