#Laserdriven #AdditiveManufacturing is one of the technologies significantly impacting the way how we sustainably create applications and products. Prominent examples were demonstrated by EOS/Hyperganic who have produced the World’s Largest Single-Piece #3DPrinted #RocketEngine, or #InjectionHeads for Ariane6 Rocket Engines by EOS/ArianeGroup, both made from #metal. Use of resources and cost could be significantly reduced. In #photonics, the majority of components have to be transparent over a broad wavelength regime, i.e. #glass and #polymer are the materials of choice. The highest degree of freedom in #AM is achieved if the light for structure generation is confined to a very low interaction volume by using a microscope objective. Meet our speaker Martin Hermatschweiler from Nanoscribe who will introduce you to #TPA fabrication, focusing on use cases in photonics which clearly benefit from #submicron features, significantly contributing to sustainability. #Share and #discuss with world class speakers about their #photonicsdriven #technologies and approaches to achieving more #sustainability in their #companies, their #products, and how their #technologies support a reduction of environmental #footprints. About three billion people depend on #water of unknown quality (according to the #UnitedNations), and the number for #liquid #food is not even clear. This exposes people to high risk with respect to their well-being and #health. One of the reasons for such unacceptable living condition is related to the lack of tools for point-of-issue (#POI) testing, providing #highsensitivity and #fastresponse and, at the same time, being #robust, #reliable, and #lowcost. But these are not the only application scenarios. Meet our speaker Tobias Schröter from FluIDect who will introduce you into an ultrafast analytical tool combining #biosensors and fluorescent resonator signature #FRS technology to detect #pathogens and other #contaminants. #Share and #discuss with world class speakers about their #photonicsdriven #technologies and approaches to achieving more #sustainability in their #companies, their #products, and how their #technologies support a reduction of environmental #footprints. "During my research, I found that many products can be developed, and these products can be equipped with various innovative features, such as self-cleaning surfaces that don't retain water, and the eyeglasses with nanoscale surface roughness incorporating Nano Multi-rings into the lenses to control the development of myopia," said Professor Benny Cheung, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University), in our exclusive interview. "In our everyday lives, it's highly beneficial to introduce these technologies into society. This is why I have devoted over two decades to this field." In this episode of #HKTechTalk25, we visited the State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. As a multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary system engineering platform and a critical backbone of today’s innovative technologies, ultra-precision machining technology is extensively applied across various fields, including optoelectronics, mechatronics, optometry, optics, telecommunications, and biomedical engineering. During the interview, Professor Cheung pointed out that transitioning scientific research to the market is not an instantaneous process. The commercialization of such innovations cannot be accomplished by universities alone but requires the collaborative efforts of the entire industry chain. "Once a technology product is developed, you will hope it has an impact. Ultimately, it's not us who decide its impact, but the market that does the evaluation. That is, how many customers can benefit from it. The market will judge the product itself, not depend on our own proclamations of remarkable achievements," added Cheung. Would you like to know what #intelligentmanufacturing has to do with #Photonics supporting #sustainability and reducing the environmental #footprint? Meet Erik Beckert from Fraunhofer IOF and learn how #artificialintelligence is used to optimize manufacturing processes which leads to saving raw materials and energy. This is particularly important for such processes which are needed to creating components where materials are involved which need energy-intensive production to develop their performance. This is not only useful for enhancing the company's and product's sustainability, but also for saving money. Erik will talk about laser crystal growing at the very beginning of the photonics value chain, making use of such an approach. #Share and #discuss with world class speakers about their #photonics-driven #technologies and approaches to achieving more #sustainability in their #companies, their #products, and how their #technologies support a reduction of environmental #footprints. This article discusses the efforts of European researchers, led by Dr. Inge Asselberghs, to transition graphene from laboratory research to industrial-scale applications in electronics, photonics, and sensors. Through the 2D Experimental Pilot Line (2D-EPL), a collaboration involving 11 institutions across Europe, the team has developed prototype manufacturing processes to integrate graphene and other two-dimensional materials into wafer-scale production. Despite challenges such as handling the delicate material without defects, the team has established automated, controlled processes at Imec's facilities in Belgium. Graphene's remarkable properties—strength, flexibility, conductivity, and thinness—position it to revolutionize electronics by enabling faster, more efficient devices. While industrial rollout is not yet complete, these advancements mark significant progress toward widespread adoption of graphene-based technologies. For more details, please continue reading the full article under the following link: https://lnkd.in/e9JGJr4J -------------------------------------------------------- In general, if you enjoy reading this kind of scientific news articles, I would also be keen to connect with fellow researchers based on common research interests, including the possibility to discuss about any potential interest in the Materials Square cloud-based platform ( www.matsq.com ), designed for streamlining the execution of materials and molecular atomistic simulations! I was asked what led me to study engineering at ETH Zürich and if I played in my childhood with cars 🚗instead of dolls 👧 I didn’t play with cars. I had a little doll named "Alenka." But what truly fascinated me about her wasn't just her beautiful pink outfit; it was the magnet hidden in her mouth. 🧲 So, I discovered Alenka's magnetic personality. When I offered her a toy milk bottle 🍼 with the opposite magnet strength, she eagerly accepted. But when I tried sugar, which had the same magnetic strength, she refused. This quirky behavior sparked my curiosity. So, it was probably my pink doll that led me to study engineering 😉 Today, I find myself at SENIS Group, Switzerland, where we provide cutting-edge #sensors and instruments for #magnetic field and electric #current measurements. What sets #SENIS apart is our unique blend of expertise in Hall magnetic sensor design and signal processing. Our sensors and measurement devices for magnetic fields and electric currents are renowned for their precision. At SENIS, we understand the dynamics between magnetic sensors and their paired magnets, making us your trusted partner in achieving optimal system performance. Are you ready to delve into the world of magnetic and current measurements? Whether you're optimizing #emotors, fine-tuning #robots, enhancing #medical equipment, or simply improving toys, SENIS is here to assist you 🤩 P.S. The picture on the left side was taken in my childhood, while the one on the right side was taken by Coiltech®, International Coil Winding Exhibition & Conference in Germany 2024. ➡️I will be at Coiltech Italy 2024 on September 18th giving a presentation and discussing Cutting-Edge Magnetic Field Measurement, presenting SENIS’s 3D Mapper and Pure 3D Magnetic Camera for precision inspection. Accurate measurement and inspection of magnetic fields in small objects with complex geometries and high field gradients are crucial for many industries. SENIS’s magnetic camera, with over 16’000 3D magnetic pixels integrated on a CMOS chip and a field-sensitive volume of 27x9x4 µm³ in each pixel, provides true and instant 3D magnetic measurements. SENIS measures in all three directions (Bx, By, Bz) at one point and with equally outstanding performance in all 3 directions thanks to its patented Hall sensor technology. ➡️ I will be at CERN at #MMA24 organized by the UK Magnetics Society https://lnkd.in/dyfU3U9S #Magnet #sensor #Innovation #SENIS #ThisLittleGirlIsMe #WomenInTech
