Summer's calling, but safety comes first! ☀️ With Memorial Day weekend approaching and the sun shining bright, swimming pools are starting to open for the season. But before you make a splash, join the National 'Pool Safely' campaign! Here's how to keep your pool fun for everyone this summer: - Adult Supervision is Key: Young children can drown silently in seconds. Never leave them unattended near the pool. - Life Jackets Save Lives: Non-swimmers of all ages should wear a well-fitting life jacket. - Fences & Gates are Essential: A self-closing, latching gate around your pool prevents unsupervised access. - Clean Water is Crucial: Maintain proper chemical levels to keep your pool safe and healthy for swimming. - Stay Cool & Hydrated: Beat the heat by taking breaks in the shade and drinking plenty of water. - Pool Safely: get educated. Let's make this summer a time for memories, not tragedies. 🌊🏊♂️ Did you know water safety is a top priority at YMCA Camp Combe? One key component of our water safety program is teaching swim lessons to campers ages 4 to rising 2nd grade as part of their camp day. Safety and fun go hand in hand at Camp Combe! Check out this short video showing our campers doing warm-up kicks, blowing bubbles, and swimming across the pool. 🌟 The end slide features our important buddy check process. Children repeat our pool rules before entering the pool area and are assigned a buddy. Once in the pool, we perform buddy checks every 15 minutes. Here's how it works: a lifeguard blows their whistle, the children exit the pool and find their buddy, then hold hands until all buddies are counted. When everyone is accounted for, the lifeguard blows the whistle again, signaling the children to reenter the pool. #TheresNoPlaceLikeCombe https://lnkd.in/eD5_E7by #WaterSafety #SwimLessons #SummerCamp #YMCA

May is National Water Safety Month. As part of National Water Safety Month, the Alliance is encouraging parents to play an active role in promoting water safety and providing six tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable swimming experience for all. # Make sure children know to always ask permission before going in or near the water. # Never swim alone or without a water watcher. # Supervise your children whenever they’re in or near water. # Don’t engage in breath-holding activities. # Wear a life jacket. # Don’t jump in the water to save a friend who is struggling in deep water. Use the “reach, throw, don’t go” concept of using a long object to reach for them and pull them to safety.

💦Swimming is the best first sport for kids. It’s a fun activity that fuels brain health and builds strong bodies and, more importantly, it’s an essential life skill that can help prevent drowning. 📍Pool Safety: Preventing Drowning When Not Swimming 🏊♂️🚫 Keeping your child safe around pools is crucial, even when they’re not swimming. Here are three essential tips to prevent drowning: 📍Install Barriers: Ensure pools are surrounded by a fence at least 4 feet high with a self-latching gate. This prevents unsupervised access to the pool area. 📍Remove Temptations: Clear toys and floats from the pool area when it’s not in use. These can attract children to the water. 📍Supervise and Educate: Always supervise your child around water, even if they’re not swimming. Teach them the dangers of going near the pool unsupervised. #PoolSafety #ChildSafety #DrowningPrevention #DrCandiceMD

The National Drowning Report 2024, released today at Parliament House, Canberra, found there were 323 drowning deaths over the past 12 months, which is a 16% increase on the 10-year average. Whilst progress has been made in some areas, drowning numbers remain persistent. This report highlights the importance of providing universal access to swimming lessons and lifesaving skills. It also illustrates the necessity of ensuring lifesaving services are present at the places and times where people are choosing to swim. The Hon Anika Wells MP said the Australian Government was committed to supporting organisations like Royal Life Saving – Australia and Surf Life Saving Australia to raise water safety awareness, ahead of summer. “With some simple precautions we can all enjoy the water safely. Always supervise children around water, learn swimming, water safety and lifesaving skills, wear a lifejacket when boating, and always swim between the red and yellow flags,” Find out more Royal Life Saving Society - Australia & Surf Life Saving Australia https://lnkd.in/gNab8Hdx... https://lnkd.in/gHAz95VR
