When I was changing tires on a pit road, I truly had to trust that my tire carrier would pin the new tire on the hub to where I could tighten the five new lug nuts on the studs as fast as possible. We had to trust each other to be perfect so that our job was correct. There was another two-guy team on the rear tires that we had to trust so that our job was correct. There was a teammate fueling the car that we had to trust. The teammate carrying rear tires also had to be trusted to make any chassis adjustments. We had to trust our driver to stop at exactly the correct spot within our pit box, the steering wheel was straight, and the brakes were applied. This less-than-fifteen-second controlled chaos appeared like a choreographed stage dance performance... because it was. Performance. Speed. Competition. Reward. All come from trust in your colleagues and their trust in you. My lessons learned on pit road are applicable to any business and company. After 12 years as product information specialist, Ive lost the ability to 'turn it off'. I apply my craft to many things I see. Lately this commercial has been in regular rotation in the online feeds. And professionally speaking... I have some notes. https://lnkd.in/gpWTA_U7 The main issue here is the notion that sport mode unlocks extra power or speed that would allow you to: Get home in a hurry. The reality is that sport mode simply remaps the accelerator pedal to feel more responsive. Meaning without sport mode one would have to press the pedal 100% to receive 100% engine power. With sport mode enabled one might only need to press the pedal 50% (arbitrary) to receive 100% of engine power. Anything beyond that adds no further throttle input. Some executions also do similar remapping of the power steering hardware for a tighter/sportier steering response. You can experience this if your vehicle offers sport mode. If it is safe to do so, try to maintain even, steady, accelerator pressure and toggle sport mode on and off and feel the vehicle speed up and slow down as it interprets more and less pedal input -even though the pedal is not moving. Now I will acknowledge some actual sports cars have modes that do in fact unlock extra engine power. You know who you are if yours does, I’m sure you can tell me how many ponies you have, it's probably a Hellcat. However in the context of this commercial, it is selling a false claim because you are still bound by the speed limit. 700 horses does not make your 45 mph faster than a minivans 45 mph. Any time gained from faster acceleration would be marginal without breaking the law or generally driving like a nuisance.
