🔥 In Defense of Gas Cooking: Key Points for Our Community Amidst debates over kitchen technologies, it’s important to consider the facts about gas cooking: Safety: Gas stoves meet stringent safety standards (ANSI Z21.1), making them safe for daily use. Air Quality: Advances in low-NOx technology have significantly reduced emissions from gas stoves. The impact of these emissions on outdoor air quality is relatively minor compared to other sources. Efficiency and Decarbonization: Replacing gas stoves with electric ones does not automatically lead to environmental benefits. Efficiency depends largely on the source of electricity. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ): Proper kitchen ventilation is key. ASHRAE Standard 62.2 mandates exhaust systems that effectively manage cooking emissions, making any well-ventilated kitchen safe regardless of stove type. Culinary Preference: Many cooks prefer gas for its precise control and immediate heat adjustment, factors often overlooked in discussions about banning gas stoves. A balanced approach, focusing on safety standards and effective ventilation, supports continued use of gas stoves without compromising health or environmental goals. #Engineering #HVAC #IndoorAirQuality #CulinaryArts #Sustainability #ASHRAE

Comeau Refrigeration's Sustainability Tips: Rusty Comeau thinks it is getting warm! Are you ready for another hot summer? You can keep your home cooler by pulling blinds, closing windows during the day, and opening windows at night. If your home is multi-level, open windows on the ground floor and top floor for maximum benefits. When natural cooling doesn't cut the mustard and mechanical cooling is required, keep windows closed to reduce cooling costs.

SNAP Action (Rule 26) On May 22, 2024, EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan signed a final rule titled “Protection of Stratospheric Ozone: Listing of Substitutes under the Significant New Alternatives Policy Program in Commercial and Industrial Refrigeration.” This action lists 10 alternatives as acceptable with use conditions for the refrigeration and air conditioning sector. These listings are for new commercial ice machines, new industrial process refrigeration, new cold storage warehouses, new ice skating rinks, and certain types of new equipment in the retail food refrigeration end-use. This action also modifies use conditions for the previously listed refrigerant R-290 (propane) when used in new commercial ice machines and new stand-alone units in retail food refrigeration, and allows for a transition period between the existing and updated use conditions. In addition to listing propane as acceptable, subject to use conditions, as a refrigerant in new refrigerated food processing and dispensing equipment, the EPA is also exempting propane from the venting prohibition under the Clean Air Act’s section 608 requirements in that end-use. The EPA is finalizing these listings after its evaluation of human health and environmental information on various substitutes submitted to the SNAP program. An advance copy of the final rule is available at https://lnkd.in/eDxf-qe, which will be updated once the rule is published in the Federal Register. To view the public docket, visit www.regulations.gov and search for docket number EPA-HQ-OAR-2023-0043. https://lnkd.in/g2Hb6txd

It’s not just a refrigeration issue; it’s the primary challenge we face! In the unseen chill of every fridge and cold storage, a subtle process unfolds that doesn’t just compromise efficiency but also quietly drains our wallets and harms the environment. ❄ Frost tends to form mainly in areas operating at low temperature, just like the walls of our refrigerator, where moist air condenses into frost. Even a slight layer of this ice can form quickly, acting as an insulator against the cooling process. ⚠ This means the refrigeration system must work harder to keep temperatures steady, leading to increased energy use. The extra effort needed to combat frost formation can cause faster wear on components, potentially leading to breakdowns. ❌ Addressing ice buildup often requires more frequent maintenance and multiple defrost cycles each day, pushing up operating costs and increasing the likelihood of damage. Traditionally, defrost cycles are set at regular intervals, whether or not frost has actually formed, resulting in unnecessary energy expenditure, thermal stress and environmental impact. ✅ To tackle this, we’ve developed a precise ice sensor for heat exchangers that monitors icing conditions in real time. This enables us to trigger defrosting just when needed and for no longer than necessary. ✅ Our intelligent defrost control can significantly cut kilowatt-hours and CO2 emissions monthly in both existing and new cooling systems, lessen thermal stress on the units, prolong their service life, and reduce maintenance requirements. Reach out to us at info@cold-sense.com to learn how you can achieve unparalleled savings with our intelligent defrost system! --- Who are we? We are a customer-oriented high-tech company revolutionizing the cold room landscape in the food industry. Our mission is crystal clear: to make cold rooms more energy-efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly. ❄️ For more information: Visit our website: www.cold-sense.com Join us on this journey towards a greener and more sustainable tomorrow! #Innovation #EnergyEfficiency #Substainability #ColdStorage #Innovation #Engineering #Logistic #Temperature #Frost # Defrost #FoodLogistics #TechForGood
