Meet Itsa, the Associate Director of Equity, People and Administration at Oregon Food Bank. “Oregon Food Bank has made internal changes to continue to put the community that we serve at the forefront and to make them the priority. That really speaks to our mission. If we’re serving a community, and our goal is to be community-oriented, we need to lead with actions and not just words. Oregon Food Bank does that, and it’s a really beautiful thing.” Itsa’s story reminds us that food justice centers people in their daily, lived experience. It means that communities have power over our own food systems and that we are able to make decisions about what we grow, produce, distribute and consume. When we envision communities who never know hunger, we envision communities who can access food with safety and dignity. The Food for All Oregonians campaign envisions an Oregon where all people have access to food no matter where we’re born. The mission of Feeding Pennsylvania is to promote and aid our member food banks in securing food and other resources to reduce hunger and food insecurity across the state and to provide a shared voice on the issues of hunger and food access within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A program of Feeding Pennsylvania, The Mid-Atlantic Regional Cooperative (MARC) is a member-led regional produce cooperative of Feeding America Food Banks serving the Mid-Atlantic Region from Maine to Virginia. The MARC provides solutions to farmers, wholesalers, and importers by offering an outlet for surplus product and distributing that excess to food banks throughout the region. This enables food banks to receive anywhere from 5-10 different commodities per load—enhancing the variety and value to their clients and allowing food banks a more dependable and efficient supply. The MARC can solve your excess production and inventory problems, while you help us ensure that more fresh produce gets into the homes of families facing hunger. #PFMA #FeedingPA #FoodBanks #Hunger #ShelfConfidence 

Last fiscal year, we distributed nearly 6 million pounds of nutritious food provided by The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)! The Food Bank and other Feeding America partners across the country rely on this program to help keep up with the rising need for food assistance and food costs. Through TEFAP, the USDA purchases fruits, vegetables, and other staples from U.S. growers and producers so that organizations like ours can distribute this food to people in need. In my opinion, a lot of food waste comes from wanting to be a 'good host.' An example is always the number of condiment packages provided at food outlets with our purchases. Our vendors don't want us to run out and leave our meal halfway to get more supplies, so they over-provide.   It's a practice and mindset that I hope we can break soon. Still, until we do, I appreciate Premium Outlet Collection Edmonton International Airport for partnering with the Leduc & District Food Bank Association to ensure wastage is avoided and awareness is raised. The best way to get rid of an ant problem is to prevent one in the first place. Ants chase food so eliminate temptation. Keep your pantry staples like flour, sugar, cereal, and grains in sealed containers. This goes for the pet food you store in the garage as well. And keep it clean. Regularly cleaning up crumbs and spills will take away any reason for ants to invade your home.
