As a person who has suffered forced removal and assimilation via forced adoption, I see the next step in true reconciliation is the unactioned recommendations from both The Bringing Them Home Report and the 2010 Senate inquiry into the Commonwealth's Contribution to Former Forced Adoption Policies and Practices. We can all stand together and openly accept and acknowledge the impacts through those who lived similar stories. While adequately funding, supporting and redressing those affected together. Education is the first step. HumanAbility Ltd Jobs and Skills Australia https://lnkd.in/gNKyKtcH

“[AI] is a technology that’s not situated in one cultural knowledge, and a reminder that varied knowledge and perspectives are crucial in leveraging technology effectively.” We’re proud to highlight the incredible work of Wakanyi Hoffman, a member of our Humanity Link Impact Advisory Board, who has been pushing forward thought-provoking narratives around the intersection of technology, transformation, and global equity. She is just beginning a new journey at the #InclusiveAILab at Utrecht University to amplify voices of the unknown majority....amazing! In her recent reflections on the concept of "polycrisis", Wakanyi brilliantly reframes what might feel like a moment of despair into an opportunity for transformation. Her insights on AI and its potential to bridge gaps, particularly in the global south, are inspiring and much-needed. Wakanyi's voice is a crucial one as we navigate the complexities of emerging technologies and their role in shaping inclusive, equitable futures. Her leadership is helping Humanity Link build a vision where technology serves as a tool for collective progress, rather than division. Wakanyi will be discussing this topic in detail during The Polyopportunity, an event during the UN 2.0 | United Nations Week with the House of Beautiful Business on September 19-20, at Columbia University’s Teachers’ College in New York. #AI #GlobalSouth #Transformation #TechnologyForGood #InclusiveFuture #HumanityLink #Polyopportunity #Innovation
On September 19-20, the Acosta Institute and the House of Beautiful Business will gather in #NYC to write a powerful counter-narrative to the #polycrisis: The Polyopportunity. We’ll explore how to amplify positive trends across disciplines, how to nurture and develop the links between these trends, and how to build the foundation for a future that we want. Contributing to this conversation will be Wakanyi Hoffman, Gaya Herrington, Dave and Helen Edwards, Francesca Hogi, Brandon Vaidyanathan, W. Christine Choi, Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, Amánda Efthimiou, Laura Francois, Jessica Orkin, D. Graham Burnett, Dr. Angel Acosta, and Tim Leberecht. Community-based human service organizations- we want to hear from you. What contributes to the actual cost of delivering community-based services in Illinois? Do reimbursement rates and state grants address these costs? By piecing together this story with the data and experiences you share, we can shed light on what is missing from current grants and reimbursement rates, and offer practical solutions for bridging these gaps in funding.

It’s not a crisis if we flip the narrative. Depending on which side the coin falls, the #polycrisis could be a moment of profound #transformation. The question remains: Can we toss the coin already? What are the possibilities of “toiling” rather than “toying” with tech? Undoubtedly, AI will keep building better AI. There is no end in sight. The ship has sailed, along with the master ship builder. What if we could relearn the art of building canoes with the help of AI? In her recently released book, "From Pessimism to Optimism," Payal Arora eloquently states, “Pessimism is a privilege for those who can afford despair.” This perspective shifts the focus from a sense of helplessness to one of actionable hope. In an earlier conversation with Payal, we compared AI to a knife – a tool that the majority of the world, particularly those in the global south, has been waiting to use. It requires no prior knowledge and is intuitively built to address the scarcity of tools and resources for self-development, that majority of the world has been facing. What matters now more than ever is WHAT wants to be built. The knife is s timely tool for those who have been toiling the mental landscapes planting seeds of creativity and now have real fruit to cut. The current knife design might be new and fancy, but creative ideas are as old as the universe and just as abundant. As one #Kikuyu proverb wisely states, “One who does not know one thing knows another.” This resonates strongly with the AI revolution. It’s a technology that’s not situated in one cultural knowledge, and a reminder that varied knowledge and perspectives are crucial in leveraging technology effectively. AI isn't a newfound monster to fear. It could be a welcome companion for creating better lived experiences. If we focus solely on the potential dangers, we risk self-annihilation by design. However, if we harness the positive edge of this double-edged sword, the possibilities are endless. In other (Kikuyu) words, ““Having rain clouds is not the same as having rain.” It’s not yet raining. There is still time to flip the coin or toss it out altogether and write a different creation story before the clouds part. Then we can dance in the rain! I’ll be bringing these provocations to The Polyopportunity, an event that will be held in New York during the UN Innovation Week on September 19-20. Optimism will be served, along with #joy ✨ Join us at Columbia University’s Teachers’ College as we co-author a new and inclusive story of the #polyopportunity House of Beautiful Business Acosta Institute #Future #Narratives #ArtificialIntelligence #InclusiveAI #NewBusiness #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #AI #GlobalSouth #TechnologyForGood #Transformation
