Being a "leader" in a given industry can be daunting, fleeting, humbling, and lots of other "ings", but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Here's a few insights into business leadership that help drive positive behaviors with employees.

Attend relevant events and seminars to increase your visibility and express your interest in board roles. 3. **Showcase Your Expertise**: Actively contribute to discussions, publish articles, and participate in panels within your industry. Do bring an external CEO into the family business, but don’t stop there: Give her a workable organization.   Imagine that you have hired an external CEO to professionalize your family business. Now, imagine that the board is made up of family members, and that all the managers are part of the family as well.   In this case, an external CEO may have an impossibly rough road ahead of her.   Three potential scenarios:   ❇️ Information tends to flow directly from the management to the board without the CEO knowing about it. The CEO’s attempts to professionalize the lines of communication fail because of family relations that leave the CEO on the sideline.   ❇️ Family members of the board are also solving daily management tasks and, as a result, they are, in effect, the CEO’s subordinates as well as her employers. The CEO’s authority and ability to lead suffers as a result.   ❇️ The CEO gets caught up in problematic family dynamics that run up and down the decision hierarchy and which she neither fully understands nor can fix because this would require her to break down private boundaries.   All three scenarios are preventable.   As a family, make sure that you prepare for significant changes and get everyone on the board to pledge openness to the process before inviting an external CEO into the mix.   Make family involvement a theme when interviewing candidates and make sure that there’s a match between the CEO’s expectations and yours when it comes to the (new) role of the family.   Feel free to share your own advice in the comment section.   #Familybusinesses #Boardwork #Leadership

"Feel free to object….” An often-used invitation in meetings, but what kind of reaction does it generate? Does it make colleagues lower in the hierarchy reluctant to share their views? Especially if their perspectives don't align with a senior leader. Does it leave people wondering, "What do you want me to say?" An enterprise must make space for different perspectives if it’s to avoid the well-documented risks of groupthink. 🛑 Poor decision-making 🛑 Lack of creativity 🛑 An illusion of invulnerability 🛑 Optimal solutions being overlooked Inviting constructive criticism of a proposed course of action can spark a healthy debate, which can in turn generate new and better ideas. New and established companies with boards occasionally must identify new directors as they adapt to a changing business environment. They may not have an extensive list of candidates at hand...making the search difficult. So...how can qualified board candidates make themselves known?
