Our video projects thrive thanks to our exceptional Video Production Manager, Brandon Kenney. His keen eye for detail seamlessly merges Hollywood flair with corporate messaging. Get to know Brandon below and discover more about his expertise. What is your title at PENDA? Video Production Manager Tell us a little about yourself and what you do... I am a cinematographer and video production manager at PENDA. I help to create and execute various client projects, contribute ideas and generate multifaceted content for marketing and flagship projects. I've always had a passion for cinematic storytelling and creative work and I love to see life from behind a lens. How does video production help clients tell their stories? Creating a video, especially with onsite filming, helps clients tell their stories because it offers a look into their operations and personalities. Everything from the people to the process to the product. My goal is to create a narrative perspective that encompasses more than just a video. I believe that filming on location adds more depth to what we create, making our visuals speak louder than words ever could. What is your favourite part of working with clients? I'm genuinely interested in what people are passionate about, so I love it when I get the opportunity to film with someone who enjoys showing us what they do or have created. It makes me feel wholesome to get an opportunity like that! What do you love about working with PENDA? I love working with the team behind the projects. Since I joined, I've had the opportunity to work closely with just about everyone on the team, and they really encourage creative ideas and trust my instincts which I couldn't ask for more. It's been a thrilling journey, and I believe our work truly reflects the energy and passion we put into it. Do you have an exciting moment or highlight memory from any of the shoots with PENDA? During one of my earliest shoots, we got rooftop access to capture a sunset timelapse in Toronto. Watching the city skyline transform from a downtown skyscraper was an unforgettable experience. It seems like such a simple memory, but it stands out because I felt like I was exactly where I wanted to be, doing exactly what I wanted to do as a career.

PRE-PRODUCTION is the planning phase that happens before filming begins in video production. It's essentially laying the groundwork to ensure a smooth shoot and successful final product. 🏠 Think of it as the foundation of your house - you wouldn't start building the walls before you had a solid foundation, right? Here's a breakdown of what pre-production typically involves: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 This is where you brainstorm ideas, define the video's goals, and solidify your message. 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐭𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 Here you turn your ideas into a clear and concise script that outlines the shots, dialogue, and overall flow of the video. 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 Storyboards are visual representations of the script, like a comic strip for your video. They help plan out the sequence of shots and camera angles. 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 Determining how much you'll spend and how long the shoot will take is crucial. You need to factor in equipment rentals, location fees, talent costs, and crew salaries. 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 If your video requires filming outside a studio, you'll need to find the perfect locations that match the tone and style of your video. 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 Assemble your crew, which might include a director, cinematographer, sound person, actors (if needed), and other specialists. 𝐄𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 This involves securing all the cameras, lights, sound equipment, and other tools you'll need for filming. . . . By thoroughly planning during pre-production, you can avoid problems on set, save time and money, and ultimately create a more polished and professional video. . . . Do you want to leverage your internal team by onboarding an external team that can help with other phases of video production? We can help! 🙌 Feel free to send your message or schedule a FREE discovery call with me. #preproduction #video #planning #tips #videotips

How Does Filming Work on a Sound Stage? First, what is a sound stage? Before we go into how filming works on a sound stage, let’s make sure there’s a shared understanding of what this means. When people drive through the streets of the city of Los Angeles – or other popular places for movie-making – they may pass by without a second thought as to what’s inside some of these nondescript structures. Unless these stages are located on the lots of famous studios – the names of which everyone knows – there’s not usually an indication of what’s inside. However, a sound stage is not just any old big box of a building. There are certain features that make an edifice a suitable place for a television or movie production. Sound stages emerged to fill the needs of the movie-making business almost a century ago. While the first film production studio was built before the turn of the century, it took a few more decades to successfully incorporate the element of sound. A sound stage (also written soundstage) is a large, soundproof (or nearly soundproof) structure in which a movie or television show is recorded. Since it’s used for the production of projects that involve both picture and sound, the room must contain elements that support the technology for both. They are usually part of a production studio, which has rooms for the cast and crew, like hair and makeup rooms, green rooms, and a space for craft services. Many studios also have post-production facilities such as editing rooms and equipment. This allows a production company to take a project from start to finish in pretty much one location. Having More Control Over the Production Is Ideal This is why many filmmakers opt for taking the production indoors, to a controlled environment with all the bells and whistles delineated above. A crew can make sure equipment is available, come in and set up everything to suit their needs, and begin the process. To get a better idea of what all of this can look like, here’s a video of director|producer|writer Rubidium Wu discussing some of the benefits of shooting on a sound stage. Even though a production company will incur some costs shooting in a studio, it’s easy to see the benefits. He points out how the ability to control sound and lighting, set up new shots, and knock out more than one scene (in more than one “setting”) in a day was important. https://lnkd.in/gFER9fsE
