What is a shadow bundle and why is CMS so focused on specialty care? A bundle is an acute episode (think inpatient DRG) plus all the care performed after the discharge for a fixed period (discharge + 90 days). The shadow part just means the bundle is managed and administered within the ACO. 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐧𝐨𝐰? Specialty care accounts for a large volume of healthcare expenditures in the United States and presents a large opportunity for value-based care. Here are a few reasons CMS is getting creative on ways to engage specialists to improve quality and reduce costs: - Specialty care is a substantial source of variation in quality and outcomes - CMS wants to provide ACOs a deeper view into specialist care performance - CMS wants to support ACOs’ ability to engage with specialists - Data will promote ACOs to base referral decisions on specialist performance Shadow bundles are the first step in engaging specialists to help CMS achieve its goal of 100% of Medicare Fee-for-Service members in a value arrangement by 2030. Shadow bundles are here but this is not the last stop for specialist engagement. Stay tuned for more!

The Importance of the Beata Clasp in HaH In the Hospital-at-Home setting, where patients receive hospital-level care at home, tools like the Beata Clasp are invaluable. They not only ensure that medical lines are securely managed, but they also support a smoother transition of care from the hospital to the home. This reduces stress for both patients and caregivers, allowing for a more comfortable and safe recovery process. As healthcare professionals and policymakers continue to advocate for the expansion of HaH programs, it’s essential to recognize the role that innovative tools like the Beata Clasp play in supporting patient care. The Beata Clasp's ability to adapt to various care settings makes it an ideal addition to any HaH program, contributing to improved patient outcomes and greater efficiency in healthcare delivery.
