As part of decolonizing the African knowledge and history, my recent paper with Dr Ja'afaru explores Tsubbu, a fascinating practice in northern Nigeria that utilizes Qur'anic verses and names to offer solutions for societal and personal challenges. Tsubbu goes beyond simply writing Qur'anic verses or spels. It encompasses various methods, including washing and drinking the inscribed water, incorporating verses into amulets, or burning them for specific intentions. This practice reflects the deep faith and belief systems embedded within the region's culture. Decolonizing African history involves acknowledging and valuing the diverse ways people have navigated life. Tsubbu showcases the rich trend of beliefs and practices that contribute to the continent's cultural identity. Although fading away due to Islamic orientalism movements, Studying Tsubbu allows us to delve deeper into the historical and ongoing role of faith in shaping social and personal well-being within this region. It sheds light on the ways communities utilize their beliefs to find solace and guidance. I'm interested in fostering discussions about Tsubbu and its significance. How do faith-based practices like this one shape societies over centuries? Let's share perspectives and continue decolonizing the narrative around African traditions. You can request for a copy. #Africa #Nigeria #Tsubbu #Religion #BeliefSystems #Decolonization #History #Culture

𝗭𝗔𝗞𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗘𝗗 𝟯𝟮 𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘𝗦 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗤𝗨𝗥'𝗔𝗡: 𝗪𝗛𝗬?? 📖✨ Did you know? The term "Zakat" has been mentioned 32 time in the Qur’an! In 30/32 instances, Zakat is referenced in its technical meaning of payment of 2.5% and an obligatory contribution. In 2/32, the word Zakat is used in its linguistic meaning of purification, blessing and righteousness. In 28/32 of these instances, Zakat has been mentioned with Salah! What does this all mean? 1️⃣ It's essence within Islam: The frequent mention of Zakat across the chapters of the Qur'an underscores its foundational role in Islamic teachings. 2️⃣ A Pillar of Islam: This repetition emphasises Zakat's status as a pillar of Islam, integral to the faith's practice and spiritual ethos. 3️⃣ A Call to Support: The Qur'an underscores the importance of supporting those in need, highlighting the social welfare aspect of Zakat. This is central to the Islamic message. 4⃣ Economic Stability: By institutionalising Zakat, Islam places a strong emphasis on ensuring the economic well-being of the community. 5️⃣ Collective Growth: The teachings suggest that individual prosperity is deeply linked with the prosperity of those around us. 6⃣ Purity of Wealth: The Islamic message is not just about gaining wealth, but the purity of your wealth is a central theme and concern.

"In modern Malay-Indonesian society, we have seen everywhere what appears to be the declining influence of Islamic culture. For a thousand years since the 1st/7th century, Islamic culture nurtured empires (Umayyad, Abbasid, Fatimid, Mamluk, Ottoman, Shiite, Mogul) and experimented with more forms of government than any other culture; its political and administrative machinery encompassed more peoples in the world than any other. Islam proved itself adaptable to the vicissitudes of fortune and yet remains resilient. It enriches itself with the assimilations from other cultures without ceasing to retain its Islamic character and essence. It has the remarkable capacity to save itself as demonstrated in the case of the Mongol invasions. Yet must it need the Muslims." ~ Prof Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas, Preliminary Statement on a General Theory of the Islamization of the Malay-Indonesian Archipelago (first published 1969)

*Iqra* The first word revealed in Islam was “read,” A beacon of light, a planted seed. Read the Quran, like a river flows, To understand, as the wise wind knows. Read to discover, like stars in the night, Quest for knowledge, Muslims lost this sight. The true meaning of Iqra lies hidden, obscure, Forgotten in shadows, once clear and pure. The building blocks of Islam stand tall, Discipline, commitment—anchors for all. Consistency, a rock in the stormy sea, Cleanliness, like a fresh, blooming tree. Equality, the sun in a bright, clear sky, Guiding us forward, lifting us high. These are the qualities, the golden keys, To success in life, in every breeze. When these values and virtues align, Islam’s software upgrades are in line. Knowledge goes from hand to hand, Entrepreneurs and leaders are like grains of sand. Asif Ahmed©️2024 The building blocks of Islam are discipline, commitment, consistency, cleanliness, and most importantly, equality. These are the qualities you also need to become a successful entrepreneur, a successful leader, and a successful educator— all the necessary upgrades in life. #Islam #Equality #Commitment #Consistency #Leadership #NasDaily

REBUILDING A CULTURE OF INNOVATION IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD – It’s All About the Money. As a second part to our previous video, The Fall of the Golden Age of Islam, that explored the reasons for the fall of the exciting Muslim academic and innovative era, we bring to you a follow up that discusses the current situation for Islamic nations when it comes to the applied sciences. What were the reasons for the Islamic nation’s falling behind both developed nations as welI as the global average. One major factor is the lack of investment in education and research infrastructure. Additionally, there can be limited opportunities for collaboration and knowledge exchange, and in more prevalent cases, political instability and conflict can hinder progress in these fields. There are more reasons to this lag behind the West that has engraved itself into the Muslim psyche. This video explores these reasons and discusses potential ways to bridge the gap in STEM between Islamic nations and the rest of the world. #science #mathematics #engineering #technology #stem #research #arab #muslim #islam #innovation #invention #education #aspiration #dream #career #arabresearch #intelligence #knowledge #hope #design #suppression #ambition #passion #learning #middeleast #oic #history https://lnkd.in/epMfr6ZJ
