NCAA Women's March Madness is exploding. Its crazy growth is turning the sports economy upside down. 🏀📈
Last year, the women's tournament generated $600 million of the NCAA's $1.2 billion in revenue. And it's about to explode.
In 2024, ESPN signed an 8-year, $920 million deal for the broadcast rights. The women's tournament is becoming a cash cow fatter than Charles Barkley at an all-you-can-eat buffet.
The 2024 tournament broke attendance records. 292,456 fans packed the arenas for the early rounds. A jump of 60,779 from 2023. Iowa City was a particularly hot host city, selling 28,764 tickets.
Television figures also exploded. The Women's Selection Show attracted 1.94 million viewers. A huge 52% increase on the previous year.
For the host cities, the economic impact is massive. Visitors fill hotels, crowd restaurants and souvenir shops, clog up transport and splash cash everywhere. Hosting the tournament becomes strategic to local growth.
But beyond the numbers, this tournament celebrates the incredible achievements of female student-athletes. They devote endless hours to their sport, while putting their studies on the backburner. Their dedication is beyond inspiring.
As the tournament continues to Albany and Portland, fans can expect more edge-of-your-seat moments, clutch shots and underdog heroes. This championship is about resilience, team spirit and the indomitable heart of the female athlete.
Girl power is taking over March Madness. And it's just getting started.
