Labor Day, celebrated on May 1st in many countries around the world, is a day dedicated to honoring the contributions of workers and the labor movement. One significant event in the history of Labor Day is the Haymarket affair, which occurred in Chicago, USA, in 1886. On May 1st of that year, workers went on strike to demand an 8-hour workday. The situation escalated, and a bomb was thrown at police during a labor rally on May 4th, resulting in deaths and injuries. This event led to the trial and execution of several labor activists, despite unclear evidence linking them to the bombing. In commemoration of these events and as a symbol of solidarity with the labor movement, May 1st became recognized as International Workers' Day, or Labor Day, in many countries. Today, Intelligent Memory, would like to recognize workers and encourage all to continue to advocate for their rights, celebrate their achievements, and highlight ongoing struggles for fair wages, safe working conditions, and social justice - in whichever modern form this may look like. #LaborDay #May1st #fairemployment #unity #IntelligentMemory
