A recent survey highlights the struggles facing the hospitality industry, with 53% of managers reporting that labour shortages and burnout are affecting their teams. 12.6 venues are closing daily and while 36% attribute hiring difficulties to Brexit, many feel the pressure from increased workloads and high turnover rates, which are impacting service quality. Burnout is a significant issue, but 68% of managers believe their training programs keep employees engaged. Companies are responding with flexible hours and wage increases. Despite challenges, there’s optimism that the new Labour administration can help alleviate labour shortages. Labor shortages. The strain continues. Like many other industries, Hospitality continues to experience the significant challenges of being able to seek talent, fill positions and retain team members. Since July 2021, quit rates in hospitality have consistently exceeded 4.5% - placing immense strain on workers and the industry as a whole. According to a recent survey from the American Hotel & Lodging Association, labor shortages are still one of the biggest issues hoteliers face in 2024, with two-thirds claiming to not have enough staff and more than four in five claiming they raised wages in the second half of 2023 to help recruit and retain talent. In response to this issue and to meet the evolving demands of consumers, the industry is turning and investing in new technologies. As someone who has been part of the hospitality industry for 28 years, I’m seeing first-hand the powerful tools that are needed and being implemented to help support current team members with operational efficiencies and alleviate burden. Want to have a conversation on how to support your current team members and refocus on providing exceptional and hospitable service? Then let’s connect. Who knows? You may find that your organization will no longer be part of that 4.5% rate in the long run. #hospitality #hospitalityIndustry #tourism #hotels #employeeengagement #workforcesolutions #canteen Canteen North America

Filling the gaps with the right talent 👍 The hospitality industry faces a persistent challenge: the highest employee turnover and burnout rates across all sectors. Insights from Convene's 2023 Salary Survey highlighted understaffing as a critical issue for event venues. Despite improvements in responsiveness, nearly 50% of event planners still cite staffing levels, experience, and responsiveness as major areas of dissatisfaction with hotels and event venues. But there's good news on the horizon 🤗 . Meet Boston, the city's destination marketing organisation is taking proactive steps to address these issues. Last fall, they launched a workforce development initiative targeting labour shortages in hotels. This initiative aims to solve two major problems: the shortage of qualified professionals in hospitality and the lack of diversity in managerial and senior leadership roles. In the U.S., nearly a third (61%) of hospitality managers have observed a drop in gratuities. What does this mean for front line hospitality workers? To be blunt: nothing good. In customer service, it's important to find ways to thank those serving you. These jobs can be difficult, especially when on the receiving end of hostile complaints. With rising concerns surrounding the labor shortage, it's been shown that nearly 80% of current hotel workers say they would be more likely to stay with their current employer if their tips were increased, with more than half stating that they would be extremely likely to stay in their position. #Hospitality #LaborShortage #Burnout #Tourism

The current staffing shortage in the hospitality industry is well-known among industry leaders, yet it remains largely unnoticed by the government. This shortage has become so severe at the operational level that it perpetuates a cycle of understaffing, resulting in the exhaustion of existing employees due to increased workloads. As a consequence, many individuals begin to harbor resentment towards the industry, as their wages remain stagnant while their workloads continue to intensify. Seeking alternatives, those with strong communication skills and a confident demeanor easily secure positions paying upwards of INR 30,000 in metropolitan areas. They opt for these roles due to superior compensation and, importantly, a better work-life balance. A potential solution to this workforce crisis lies in the training and development of talent from Tier-2 cities. The government must recognize this opportunity to cultivate a skilled workforce for the hospitality sector, thereby reducing unemployment and improving conditions within the industry. #workforcecrisisinhotels #hospitalityindustry
