Great article, also topical with regards to the current digital transformation trend from manual/assisted/conditional (Autonomy levels 0…3 in TM Forum terminology) to level 4 (high autonomy) or even 5 (full autonomy) at many CSP’s.
My 2 cents: Reasonable AI method varies depending on use case. E.g. for topic close to my heart, i.e. automated / autonomous deployment related use cases touching to network elements (NE) configuration management fragment, GenAI based methods (telco trained LLM) might not be reasonable, because manipulation of NE configuration hierarchy requires “under the hood level” vendor product knowledge. Perhaps the exception would be if NE vendors provide “proprietary” SLM (small language model) based solutions that are adaptable into CSP use case environment, otherwise reaching Level 4/5 autonomy might require traditional AI supervised or unsupervised methods – yet requiring deep vendor specific competences.
A tip: Talent with strong RAN automation experience and recent AI studies might be available on hire 😉.
