On Monday Sept 16th Edmonton International Airport (YEG) hosted Hope Air's 2nd Haul for Hope event with presenting sponsor WestJet who brought the energy to motivate teams to cross the finish line in record speed. On a beautiful Monday morning, the Edmonton community united to showcase their strength and determination by pulling a 70,000 lb plane 100 meters—symbolizing the challenging journeys patients face to access critical medical care. Big congratulations to Dawson Wallace Construction Ltd. team "Hard Hats for Hope" who won top fundraiser and fastest team! Funds raised will provide travel support for patients in financial need with all proceeds directly supporting Hope Air's mission to ensure no Canadian is left behind due to the high cost of medical travel. Stay tuned for upcoming Haul for Hope plane pulls in Kelowna, Vancouver and Toronto. For more on Haul for Hope hopeair.ca/haul

Business aviation, often associated with corporate executives and high net worth individuals, also has a less well known but equally impactful role in humanitarian efforts. This segment of the aviation industry provides unparalleled flexibility, reach and speed, making it a vital tool in crisis situations and charitable missions around the globe. One such contribution is the support offered to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and charitable organizations. Many of these entities rely on business aviation to reach underserved communities, particularly in regions with reduced infrastructure. Aircraft can be used to transport aid workers, volunteers and supplies to areas that may be otherwise inaccessible. For example, organizations like Angel Flight and Corporate Angel Network utilize business aviation to provide free air transportation for patients with serious medical conditions who need to travel for treatment. Such humanitarian missions are made possible by business aviation companies that donate flight hours, aircraft and other resources to NGOs and charitable organizations, enabling these entities to focus on their core missions without the logistical challenges of arranging transportation. The unique capabilities of business aviation make it an invaluable asset in facilitating global humanitarian efforts. As we can see, business aviation’s mission can extend far beyond luxury travel and corporate convenience.

A survey commissioned by Airbus Corporate Jets of U.S.-based family offices who own or lease business aircraft reveals that 87% are open to using them for charitable and humanitarian purposes. In terms of how they do this, 77% say they support local or national charities by providing them with some access to their aircraft, and 44% say they support the Corporate Angel Network, a U.S.-based 501 nonprofit organization that helps cancer patients access the best treatment by arranging free travel on corporate aircraft. Some also provide access to their aircraft during a crisis situation such as humanitarian relief or emergency evacuations. Exciting things happened in 2023-4. Millions of people benefited from cheaper bus travel, thanks to the cap on fares that we campaigned for. In beleaguered rural areas, bus fares fell at last, by an average of 11 per cent. Bus routes were saved, and new rail stations opened. And after the drastic downturn of the pandemic, people returned to public transport in their droves. As we publish our 2023-4 impact report, we are deeply grateful for the visionary support of those trusts and foundations, corporations and individuals who recognise the vital importance of transport in all our lives. Our work would not be possible without them. In particular, the massive boost that a three-year grant from the Foundation for Integrated Transport has brought to the charity has been truly transformative. We hope you enjoy reading about what we achieved in 2023-4. There is much work still to do, but together, we can give sustainable transport a bright future. All roads lead to Rome All the key highways emanated from Rome in the days of empire - this is a useful analogy for organisations today. The requirements of the board and its agreed strategy should shoot out to all parts. Not in a haphazard way but with the same consistency and rigour required of the Roman highway technicians. Culture (“the way we do things round here”, Charles Handy) is a key determinant of delivering this consistency. We invite you to take a look at the way we equip boards, operating in any sector, to check they are on track to deliver their own consistency and enduring outcomes. #boardofdirectors #iod #trustees #governance #charities

🚵 256 miles cycled over one working day! 🚵 Not only did we cover enough distance to make it to Buckingham Palace and back, but this achievement also equates to: 🔹Completing a trip from Beccles to our Lutterworth site 1.66 times 🔹Cycling 61% of the way to our Irish site, Adapt Engineering in Dublin We would like to thank everyone for their immense generosity. As of now, we have managed to raise over £2,600.00, with a few final donations still coming in. This money will go to the Sarah Cook Foundation, whose initial goal is to raise money for a search and rescue drone for the local community.
