🌍 Understanding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 🌍 At HORTICERT, we are committed to fostering a sustainable future through our certification system for sustainable peat substitutes. To verify the sustainability of peat substitutes, we developed seven principles covering ecological, social and economic sustainability which are checked by various indicators during an audit. These sustainability requirements are firmly rooted in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). But what exactly are these goals, and why are they so important? 🔍 What are the SDGs? The Sustainable Development Goals, established by the United Nations in 2015, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. There are 17 interconnected goals, each addressing critical global challenges, including ending world hunger, promoting good health and well-being and taking urgent climate action. 💡 How We Integrate the SDGs In collaboration with several NGOs, we carefully developed our sustainability requirements. To ensure that all certified peat substitutes are produced and processed sustainably, we based our HORTICERT requirements on the SDGs, integrating ecological, social, and economic aspects of sustainability into our system. Overall, we are proud to say that our certification system incorporates 14 out of the 17 SDGs! By embedding the SDGs into our sustainability requirements, we aim at supporting our partners and system users to implement sustainable practices to create a greener future. Together, we can make a difference! 🌱 SDG Poster © un.org #HORTICERT #Sustainability #SDGs #SustainabilityCertification #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainablePeatSubstitutes
