The Lodge at Marconi has one of the most colorful stories I've come across recently, which I just shared on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/gHGUsK6Y The Lodge's developer and operator - Oliver Hospitality - invited me to check it out recently, and in this episode, you'll hear from Ethan Orley, the Managing Partner of Oliver Hospitality, about how this property came to be - with lessons for you on everything from concept development to the design to the guest experience. Listen now: https://lnkd.in/gxbHVPXR Some takeaways: Embrace Your History: The Lodge at Marconi's colorful history was leveraged to create a unique guest experience. As a hospitality leader, look for unique aspects of your property's history or location to differentiate your offering. Design with Purpose: The Lodge at Marconi's design carefully balances historical elements with modern comfort. In your property, aim to blend historical authenticity with contemporary amenities to create a unique atmosphere. Create a Strong Brand Identity: The Lodge at Marconi's brand identity is carefully crafted to reflect its history and location. As a hospitality leader, invest time in developing a strong visual brand that tells your property's story and resonates with guests. Offer Unique Amenities: The decision to exclude TVs from rooms was a strategic choice to promote disconnection and relaxation. Consider what amenities you can offer (or exclude) to enhance your guests' intended experience. Target Your Audience: The Lodge at Marconi targets a specific audience that appreciates its unique offering. Understand who your ideal guest is and tailor your services to meet their expectations, rather than trying to appeal to everyone. Leverage Local Partnerships: The collaboration with local nonprofits and the state of California was crucial for the Lodge at Marconi. Build relationships with local stakeholders to support and enhance your business. Use Swag to Tell a Story: Thoughtfully designed merchandise can extend the guest experience beyond their stay. Use swag as a tool to reinforce your brand and create lasting memories. Be Open to Evolution: The Lodge at Marconi's brand and offerings continue to evolve. Stay flexible and open to changes that can improve the guest experience and keep your property relevant. 🎧 Listen to Ethan talk more about all of this today on the Hospitality Daily Podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts -- If you enjoyed this... 1) Leave a comment below on what stood out to you from this 2) Share this with your network 3) Follow Hospitality Daily here on LinkedIn so you don't miss more stories like this Thanks! - Josiah

I'll bet you've heard a lot over the past couple of years about nature-based hospitality, but what's the real opportunity here? I met today's guest at a recent Independent Lodging Congress event, and his session was standing-room only. The audience was not only fascinated by the topic but loved what he had to share. Peter Mack is the founder and CEO of Collective Retreats and its new sister brand, The Conservatory Collective. And he had so much to share at this event that I knew I had to bring him on here to teach us all. Listen to Peter now on the Hospitality Daily Podcast: https://lnkd.in/dGP42nF6 A few takeaways from our conversation: 1) Embrace Nature-Based Hospitality: Recognize the growing trend and opportunity in connecting guests with nature. Consider how your property can integrate natural elements or experiences to meet this demand. 2) Innovate with Experience Design: Draw inspiration from unique experiences like Tough Mudder to create memorable and emotionally engaging guest experiences. Think beyond traditional hospitality offerings to include elements of adventure, wellness, and local culture. 3) Prioritize Food and Beverage: Use your culinary program to connect guests with the local environment and culture. Offer a range of dining experiences from simple, locally sourced meals to elaborate chef-led foraging and cooking experiences. 4) Develop Unique Properties: When developing new properties or renovating existing ones, focus on creating spaces that blend with the environment rather than dominating it. Consider the impact of your development on the local ecosystem and community. 5) Hire Passionate People: Look for individuals who are "lightning rods" or catalysts within the community. These team members should be service-oriented, empathetic, and capable of creating deep connections with guests. 6) Be Purpose-Driven: If it aligns with your values, explore becoming a B Corp or adopting similar standards that prioritize social and environmental responsibility alongside profitability. 7) Stay Adaptable and Forward-Thinking: The hospitality industry is evolving, and there's a shift towards more personalized, nature-connected, and sustainable experiences. Stay informed and be willing to adapt your business model to these changes. 🎧 Listen to Peter now on the Hospitality Daily Podcast (Apple Podcasts or Spotify) 👉 Let me know in the comments: What resonated here with you? -- If you enjoyed this... > Share this with your network > Follow Hospitality Daily here on LinkedIn so you don't miss more stories like this Thanks! - Josiah

Over and over in the writings and the literature, it talks about, Yes, providing for that physical safety and guaranteeing that. But also, and Henri Nouwen uses this term, creating the literal space to be exactly who you are. - Michelle Ossmann, PhD, MSN A core part of that hospitality engagement is where you invite that other person to share their stories - Michelle Ossmann There's something very interesting about the crossing behind you that, yes, has this physical dimension but has psychological implications. - Michelle Ossmann ------------------------------------------------------ Providing security and safety is the number one attribute of hospitality. And psychological safety and security are a critical piece in proving the conditions for people to their best work. The rules and norms of hospitality are deeply ingrained in our 'human-ness,' so incorporating more hospitality-centric features in design can improve people performance. It's hard wired in. Global Communications Executive | I Grow Business & Defend Marketshare Through Strategic Communications
Strategic communications isn't about telling a compelling story, being a good writer, or being a social media master. Those are table stakes. Strategic communications is about understanding the factors that drive a business forward — even if the business is a non-profit or governmental agency — and then deploying a communications strategy, complete with tools like storytelling, to achieve measurable business outcomes. I talked about this, and more, during a recent appearance on the Stories and Strategies podcast, where I shared insights on leveraging strategic communications for business success. Give it a listen! https://lnkd.in/erMErHJA

People love YOTEL because of it's rebellious brand. Turns out it's because they put every employee through a "culture training". Here's how they did it: They developed an internal masterclass in being: → Authentic → Creative → Witty Soooo….why do this for a hotel? Because when employees LOVE where they work, it shows. When they can be themselves, it shows. And that vibe is contagious to guests. It's a cycle of positivity that starts with culture and ends with satisfaction. Both for employees and guests. A win-win, if you ask us. —— Culture isn't just a buzzword at YOTEL. — It's their secret sauce And it’s making BIG waves in the hospitality industry. Are you cultivating a strong, unique culture at your company? ____ Shoutout to Olivia Donnan for joining us on our podcast this week. Full episode drops tomorrow!
