🎙Just was a guest on a podcast about Audience Engagement....the big takeaways I shared: 💪1. Empower the audience on THEIR terms, not ours. Create experiences that resonate with them! Hint: this comes from listening to their feedback (listen to understand, not respond) so make space for that with post-concert hangs or informal gatherings. 👁2. Encourage the audience to be curious about THEIR journey into the concert hall experience and then listen to their perspectives and thoughts. Not everyone will respond to program notes, preconcert talks...sometimes it's the tiniest metaphor that will spark an idea or interest. Allow space for that. 🕺3. Reaffirm there are no wrong answers or wrong ways to enjoy art. Our patrons/customers should feel welcome and have a sense of belonging, and then a desire to return. The best way is to appreciate the many ways to enjoy the art. 🪞4. And finally: Those in the orchestra business should not be approaching ticket sales from their own perspectives.
