The Business Behind the Show: A Booking Agent’s Perspective
Hello, I’m Susan Heaten, a Booking Agent in the entertainment industry. I’ve been working behind the scenes for years, ensuring that the show goes on smoothly. Many artists forget that there’s a business behind the show, and that’s where I come in.
As a booking agent, my role is to negotiate contracts, arrange performances, and manage relationships between artists, venues, and promoters. It’s a job that requires a keen understanding of the industry, strong negotiation skills, and a deep passion for the arts.
But let’s be clear, it’s not all glitz and glamour. There’s a lot of hard work that goes into every performance that you see on stage. From scheduling rehearsals to coordinating with technical crews, from managing budgets to ensuring contractual obligations are met - the list goes on.
However, the reward is immeasurable. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of seeing a show come together, of witnessing the magic that happens when an artist connects with their audience. It’s a feeling that makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Now, I want to share my experiences and insights with you. That’s why I’m hosting an Artist Development Workshop on August 18, 2024, in Niagara Falls. This event is a golden opportunity for anyone interested in the entertainment industry.
We have an exciting lineup of renowned speakers, including international booking agents, and tour managers. They’ll be sharing their expertise and providing valuable insights into the industry. And the best part? You’ll get to network with Canadian talent and industry professionals.
This is a not-to-be-missed event for anyone looking to make their mark in the entertainment industry. Whether you’re an artist looking to understand the business side of things, or an aspiring booking agent wanting to learn from the best, this workshop is for you.

Remember, the show must go on, but it’s the business behind the show that makes it possible.
