Could misunderstanding a role like that of a hotel general manager be holding us (or people in our companies) back from achieving what’s possible? Anna Marie Presutti is the General Manager of Hotel Nikko San Francisco. Like many others, she didn't really understand the opportunities in hospitality - and that continued even after she started working at a hotel. "I didn’t want to be a hotel general manager. It sounded so boring." But, as she explains in this short clip of our conversation today, she began to see the opportunity as much bigger than the traditional job description might have suggested. 🎧 Listen to our full conversation on this today on the Hospitality Daily Podcast on Spotify or Apple Podcasts 👉 What could thinking more expansively about your role look like for you? Maybe, like Anna Marie, you act not only as a general manager but also as an ambassador for your area. Maybe you’re in another role, but what would it look like to plan on a bigger scale and make a bigger impact on the people around you and your business? Let me know in the comments: Does this resonate with you? Are you trying to expand the definition of what your current role entails? ➕ Follow Hospitality Daily for daily inspiration like this you can act on

Episode 7 of GuestCentric's Latest in Travel Podcast is here! 🎙 Thank you John McAuliffe for joining this conversation and sharing your insights on how hotels and other businesses can get closer to customers, grow their business, and thrive. Your perspectives on cultivating a better understanding of the customer journey through in-depth conversations really resonated, particularly this excerpt from our conversation below: "I prefer 10 in-person interactions between the customer and the business decision maker than a rigorously designed 1,000 guest customer survey. The latter puts too many unhelpful filters between the decision maker and the customer. By talking directly to customers, you can build a model of how they think and what they care about. You can use these insights to test hypotheses and shape your hotel’s business strategy - particularly helping define where you play and how you win. Isadore Sharp, Founder of the Four Seasons Hotels embodied this approach by building a persona model of luxury hotel guests based on direct conversations with guests and observing their behaviours. He initially used this knowledge to create the chain’s legendary London Park Lane hotel and then, following its huge success, he used this model for all subsequent Four Seasons hotels." To Hoteliers and other leaders who want to gain valuable insights to help your business thrive, you can tune into the complete episode here: https://lnkd.in/d35tiRxJ

Hospitality is a unique industry. It's renowned for being particularly challenging for employers when it comes to retention. And its staff, who are split between its headquarters and its restaurants, cafes or pubs, are likely to have different needs and wants when they show up to work. This is what makes the sector especially interesting for people managers. It was great to speak to Sarah Salzer, People Director at Five Guys Europe about all of the above, and much more. Thanks so much for chatting with me! #podcast #hr #peoplemanagement #employeeexperience

In January 2020, I recorded a session with Andrew Barrett (Baz) on the Safety on Tap Podcast. It was one of my first-ever podcast interviews; in fact, it might have been the first. It was pre-COVID, literally two days after its release, we went into lockdown. Baz is a coach, so when you go on his podcast, you are essentially meeting with a coach. His questions align with that perspective. Reflecting on that discussion, it was an interesting time in my life; I had just moved back to Perth from Sydney & had changed career direction. I'd been working in tech for only three months after working in safety for over a decade. There was a lot of tension in my mind at that time. The conversation with Baz was emergent for me, my thoughts unfolding & consolidating during our discussion - the sign of a great coach. It was a fascinating timestamp in my career. We talked about design, technology, the role of the safety professional, & how it's changing. Some things have changed: - I mentioned that I didn’t really listen to podcasts; Now I listen to #RebrandingSafety, #SafetyofWork, Punk Rock Safety etc. I listen & learn from audio conversations much more than I did before. I can now listen to a risk conversation and gain insights more effectively after a few years of practice. I'm now exploring service design in addition to human-centered design as a way to improve health & safety impact across the globe. With all the discussions about New View & HOP recently, I've reflected that I've always been practicing those principles & philosophies, making an impact in my own way. I just don’t brand things that way, and I’m okay with that. Connected work is still a cornerstone for innovation in WHS, but has far more nuance than I appreciated back in March 2020. Some things haven’t changed: I'm still dedicated to improving work design & human experience in the workplace by leveraging tech & innovation. I remain curious. I continue to try new things. I engage actively. I continually learn and upskill for the future. The tension between evidence-based practice & the lack of evidence in emerging tech still exists. I still don’t like listening to myself on recordings! #impostersyndrome I think it’s probably time for another conversation with Baz. There is still so much untapped potential in the work I'm doing, & I’d love to share the amazing progress my clients & I have made over the past 24 months. If you have 45 minutes to spare, please listen to this conversation with Baz. If you need support with your own pathway in safety and professional practice, consider coaching—get in touch with Baz today. If you need coaching in digitally enabled health & safety strategy, I’m here. If you get a chance to listen to the podcast, feedback is a gift. I’d love to know if it resonated with you - link to access the pod in the comments. Yours always in curiosity, 'Cam En route to PER ✈️ SYD at 37,000ft #SafetyTech #SafetyInnovation #SafetyConcierge #Coaching
