The girl you see below has 5.2M views, 375K likes & 178K shares on one reel. But the point is that she is not even real. She is an AI-generated virtual influencer taking the creator economy by storm. Virtual influencers are digital personalities that exist primarily on social media. They’re not real people but computer-generated characters created with advanced CGI, motion capture and AI technology. Influencer marketing and AI are two huge trends quickly taking over the marketing industry. In a Q3 2023 Sprout Pulse Survey of 307 US-based social marketers, 81% said influencer marketing is essential to their overall social media strategy. Virtual influencers never age, can speak any language and can ‘travel’ to any place. This level of adaptability and flexibility means brands can potentially use one virtual influencer for campaigns in different regions instead of finding different influencers for various markets. AI is dangerous yet adventurous. Social media influencer Caryn Marjorie created a generative AI clone of herself to enable 2-way audio chats with her fans. Responses are spontaneously generated using the GPT-4 plugin, changing how humans interact with machines. AI startup Forever Voices AI created the CarynAI voice chatbot, which also made Steve Jobs and Taylor Swift clones. Users can chat with her for $1 a minute. In the first week of launch, the influencer made $72,000. Marjorie estimates she can earn $5 million monthly based on her current subscription growth trajectory. Whenever a new AI product like chatgpt 4 or Google Gemini is launched our Linkedin & Twitter timelines are inundated with influencers & company executives on their product benefits, usage etc. After a while buzz settles, influencers go quiet & marketing budgets run out. Google & Open AI know by keeping it free for end users & depending on ad revenue may not be the best strategy. What happens next? It’s the corporate world who are the real adopters of this products & that’s where value is added & several millions or billion $ revenue made. Right from Marketing to Sales to IT are collecting tons of data, need quicker analysis & AI comes to their rescue.
